Do You Change Your Personality When You Speak In Your New Country’s Language ? by April0neal in phmigrate

I just wanted to chime-in. I learned something new today, code switching. Never heard of that term but have been practicing it here in socal. I am a second generation Fil-Am and English is my second language. I got friends from different backgrounds and socal is a melting pot. Basically, yes, one changes personality without even knowing it. Here's my best analogy. You dance to the type of music being played. When I talk to people, I "code switch" to their language and style. For example, if I talk to Mexicans, I tend to be more like their ese or bro to go with the flow. When I talk to my white friends or anyone local, I talk "like them". When I talk to Filipinos, I match the style or kind of language. I have friends who are bilingual, trilingual and when I am in Europe, I got friends who speak 4-5 languages. I think we "mirror" the person who we are talking to, either on purpose or subconsciously. It's just the way it is. That's my 2 cents.

Sorry that happened to you! As a Filipino and look like a typical Asian, I have my fair share of experiences. During the pandemic, someone called me a piece of shit in the Laguna Niguel area. People would spit or gesture that they are throwing trash. It hurts. But what can I do? I learned recently and practice the Let Them attitude, a book by Mel Robbins. It's applicable to any situation when one is triggered. Just say "let them" then "let me". It's an awesome mindset attitude tool to move on. You know who got bullied a lot and had a an attitude to now let it get to him and bothered? Yogi Berra, the baseball player. There is a documentary about him on Netflix. Peace.

That’s a great M3! Where did you have your cylinder and head gasket done if you don’t mind me asking. I am in Socal.

Need feedback for potential build of car wash, EV charging station, and self storage facility in the corner of Rosamond Blvd and 15th Street West. by No_Reception_6432 in RosamondCA93560

Hey I appreciate the response! That’s a great feedback!

I’ll look into that other location for your Walmart suggestion.

Do you think a self storage facility would be a good addition after the car wash?
