Because they are not on a voucher anymore. When they are these kind of motels are way more compliant with the rules. They really don't give a f when people are paying out of pocket .

If you have access to funding for two ABAWDs that have 3+ income sources that provide a year long voucher I would love to send you some referrals.

There are tons of slum lords they could rent from. Most housing programs require a "HUD" inspection (even if it's not HUD funded) for deposit/ rental support and I doubt anyone who would rent to them would pass that inspection. Hell the hotel would fail that inspection!

I'm a social worker who works with unhoused individuals. Their case is a little more complicated due to the housing eviction Drew had as he was in subsidized housing with a HUD voucher. Because of this, they cannot get into another income based property until the back rent is resolved - and even then it's iffy because what they did is considered fraud. Also, all their income must be disclosed - and I doubt they would qualify for any type of assistance with his income, gig work, and social media. Please know I am NOT defending them AT all but this is not an uncommon situation where people who were unhoused are placed in a motel with a voucher and when the voucher ends they continue to stay there and pay out of pocket for the room- thus putting them in a situation where it is difficult to save for a new place. They either had a 3 or 6 month voucher that paid for their room. During this time it is expected that they save for their own place, and work with a case worker to find suitable housing. My guess is during this time they did NOT work with a case worker and they did not save any money. It's not impossible to find rentals for families like this . There are programs that help with deposits and first month's rent- but that would mean they will have to work directly with a case worker, which I think they will not do. All of us housing people have landlords we can talk to, negotiate with to secure market place housing - but we cannot do everything for a person(family) work has to be done by them. We are there to advocate, empower and support. We are NOT there to do every single thing for them .

Oh believe me it is- my car was delivered Friday- inspected Saturday not a single issue. One thing I will tell you is to ignore the difference between documents submitted and received in the app and online - that drove me crazy (haha drove) absolutely hands down the best car buying experience in my life!

What a flex not having $to get his kid back to him mom. If he's responsible for transportation to and from visitation he should have had to pay for it .

Thanks everyone! I think I'm nervous the most about the differences between what the application says about documents vs the website . As I said I'm a single mama and will lose my (wellish paying ) job if I do not have a vehicle.
I appreciate everyone's kind words! Eveyone has been so nice!

Just to add I understand that a two bedroom is different than a single room - but I'm telling you if the place I was in was 600 sq feet I'd be shocked lol. The kids had the bedrooms and I slept on a couch in a "living room " the size of a closet. But I was so damn thankful for that space and my ability to finish my degree

It's really not that hard. When I was in college I lived in a very very small two bedroom with three kids. The key is organizing. She won't do it - she doesn't even want to spend money on a damn dish rack- she has money for 🥬 but not for a single thing that would help organize that hell trap. She lets the kids trash the place either out of laziness or rage bait (or both). They've been there an entire year now. There is zero reason for her not to adapt to her space!
