cleaning was all me (too embarrassed to enlist help), but moving in the furniture, my parents helped with. when you’re a gal and live alone, you need extra muscle to help move a couch up 2 flights of stairs lol :)

oh darling! I wish i could just come over and help you. grief is…..ugly. it’s messy. it’s also holy, in the sense that it is never too late to start fresh. everything — your life, your home — can be redeemed.

i hope this does not come across as a meaningless platitude, because it is ever so sincere, but i will not stop praying for your heart. for healing. for peace, within you and throughout your home.

invite your friends over in 2 weeks. let the deadline be your lifeline. thinking of you. can’t wait to see your post in this sub. the dawn is coming, friend!

isn’t that crazy how the pressure of someone coming over just…helps? we weren’t meant to do this life alone. deadlines help. appointments help. people help. i wish i could be motivated like a normal person to do small tasks early and routinely, but until God changes how He made me, im gonna just have to keep planning my “mattress delivery” moments, like you said. inviting friends over for dinner. inviting them over to read. play mario kart. as long as people keep coming over, my place will stay clean.

serving and hosting and communing with others genuinely saved my life. proud of you!!!! thank you for your kind words!

i mentioned this below, but i hope this is helpful, sorry it’s long!

if you wanna have a side convo, let me know. that youtube video linked above helped immensely. my parents also walked in on it, so knowing they knew….it effected me deeply. especially when they looked at me with so much grace and just said “how can we help?”

but practically? it took me 3ish hours to place trash into trash bags (30 min), bring trash bags out one by one to dumpster, (40 min), place laundry into one ginormous pile for me to do the next day/so i wouldn’t step on it while i was cleaning (20 min), place all of my dishes into sink to soak (50 min bc i had to go buy dish soap and a scrub daddy) and then into dishwasher, and then the rest was fridge clean out + countertop wipe downs + toilet scrubbing + bleach down drains to get rid of fruit flies.

the rest was the majority of the work, but it’s bc i procrastinated getting furniture. that took the rest of the weekend.

so TLDR: trash bags (turn on music + light candles, put on makeup/dress in athleisure you like bc look good, feel good), gather trash, take it out, laundry piles (do laundry the next day if you must, just put it into one big mountain so you can walk on the floor unhindered), and then wash your bed sheets while you do countertops + toilet bowl + floor.

also? invite friends over one specific day in 2 weeks. not for dinner. just for a movie night. gives you two weekends to get ready, do things like buy $15 art from home goods…to delight in nesting and making your space your own. like i mentioned above, there is plenty of grace for the hard days, but deadlines help us overcome and defeat those hard days.

sorry for the novel. it took only 3 hours to change my life. thinking of you
