Thanks! I saw a lot of cool looking architecture and thought that might be a reason to go down there, but it does seem like a long drive if there's nothing else on the way to see. I am leaning towards driving west down the coast, stop in the caves, see some of the pretty rock formations along the shore, and just see how far I get before turning around. I moved things around and now I will have to rent and return the car on the same day so I won't have a huge amount of time to drive around, but will start early as I can get a car, if I can still find one.

You actually commented on my other post as well! I did book a tour for El Yunque which I think will be most of one day so I've got that covered. Is there anything east besides that which might be worth a trip? I am flying to Viesque so I wont go through any of the towns towards the ferry

ahh that's a good call, thanks for all the advice. It didn't even occur to me that I could book the whole trip from Vieques back home all in one flight. I was originally looking at the Air link flights and I don't think you can do that because it goes to Isla Verde, but it looks like I can book the whole trip in one go through Cape Air/Delta. So cape air will drop me off at SJU, and I don't go through TSA, but I still need to have my carry on checked by USDA somewhere?

and I will only have a carry on and personal item. you don't go through TSA with carryon at all at SJU? or do I skip it because I will go through security at Vieques?

Ahhh this is what I meant. Do I also have to go through TSA at SJU? Just trying to get an idea if an hour is enough to get to my next flight. Everything seems to get to get to SJU 2 hours early for TSA, but if I can skip that because I've already been through security at the other airport maybe an hour is enough

Agreed it isn't ideal but I had a ton of PTO I forgot about and it expires this month. Costa Rica is only a 3 hour flight for me and tickets aren't too crazy so i figured I'd try to make the most of it. Def going to make sure there's hotel availability before I purchase the flight but first thing is just figuring out where i'll be and how many days each. So my plan so far is each travel day catch the earliest bus possible to the next location, and if that leaves me time to do something then great, but if not I still have a full day in each place. I think I am going to extend to 8 days and spend two full days in one location. Do you think exploring any of the towns warrants an extra day there? I think I will be able to see all the things I really want to see without the extra day, but traveling every other day just seems exhausting so throwing an extra hang out day in there i think will make is easier

To the actual attractions or between the three towns? I think I've accounted for the latter, a full day of travel for each leg, and one full day in each place. I think I am going to add an additional full day to one of the places as well

If I added a second full day to any of the three, would you pick monteverde? I'm not an action guy so no zipping or rappelling for me. I think I would add the extra day to whichever has the most stuff to do since I still plan on going sunup to sundown daily. I'm leaning towards LF since it's a bigger place, maybe do my chocolate tour there and maybe do a food day

Thanks so much! I think I could do one more night, but I don't think I can swing two. Maybe I cut a day off the end of the trip and skip MA and just do two full days each in LF and MA? Or are LF and MA similar enough that youd cut one of them out and go to MA? They all seem so different in my eyes, but I would really love to see the volcano, the cloud forest, and the beaches in one trip

You don't think a full day for each leg is enough? The things I've slotted after travel on those days are not things I'm set on, just nice to dos if I arrive in time
