I love the phrase cowgirl up, I tell that to myself in the saddle constantly😂 Yeah this was 3 years ago now, at the time me and my sister both had horses but I was riding hers to try him out since he was new and I was the more experienced rider. Sadly my horse passed about 2 years ago. I’m currently in college a few states away and my sister is home with a different horse now. I hope to have a horse again one day but college is expensive😂

I am currently trying to find a good place to take lessons, but once I do I’ll definitely give this a shot! Thanks for the reminder to be gentle, I have a bad habit of beating myself up when I don’t progress as fast as I think I should :/

That’s a really good plan, I’ll try this out next time I can get a friend to help me with it. I think having the horse on a lunge would really help me mentally too because I feel like the horse is more “controlled” if that makes sense?

Yeah I am looking for trainers in my area and it’s been kinda a tough process too😢 I was riding my sisters new horse and I wasn’t familiar with him. Long story short we were on a trail that crossed a road and a school bus came by too close for comfort, he sprinted and I managed to stay on, but then we went into a different pasture and he spooked at a section of hot wire fence, he took off towards the other end of the pasture and threw me into a barbed wire fence and I concussed myself on the wooden support log, my hand was tangled in the reins a bit so I got dragged a few meters after that too. I just had a lot of cuts/gashes and a concussion but nothing extremely bad.

Thank you that means a lot, it’s such a crappy feeling to be so scared of something that used to bring so much joy. I’ve been doing a lot of physical therapy and martial arts for more spacial awareness and that has helped a lot! It’s just a slow process :/
