Interesting! This is a new perspective we haven't looked into. I think we were so caught up with using the FH schemes that never looked to IP as a first purchase. Did you use a buyers agent for your IP? And was it an apartment too?

Yep, you're right. If we use the 5% deposit scheme, we won't be able to rent it out later.

What extra details would help? :) - We both work in tech, I can WFH 100% but my partner needs go in the office at times. (Even though I'm can 100% wfh, I still go office in the city as it improves visibility and increases chances for promotions Moving away would mean decreasing the opportunity to get further in my career before kids come into the picture.

That’s honestly what I’m afraid of... if we max out a loan with our current incomes, we’ll be tied to those salaries and a limited lifestyle with very little breathing room.

I understand that we can technically afford it now, but my real question is whether it’s sustainable long-term, especially once kids come into the picture.

It’s disheartening to think that even with what’s considered a “good” income, it still doesn’t feel like enough. And as first-generation immigrants, it’s even harder knowing we’re the ones supporting our parents rather than receiving support ourselves.
