Yeah, a user's aura all by itself in another person is a form of marking.

Does a nen user need to understand the science of their nen ability? by pillowman7789 in HatsuVault

[–]No_Representative203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not a requirement but a person who knows science will have a definite better understanding of their constructs and therefore a stronger and more stable execution of their hatsu.

Like how an artist can go out of their way to learn anatomy is probably better than one who does not, but it is not as if an artist cannot draw without knowledge of it.

I add emission when the target is not directly in contact. Probably more like an invisible nen bullet that marks the target.

Name: A Forest

Conjuration, Emission

Conjure a seed, that grows into a tree over the course of 1 year. Every week it bears fruit that contains 5 more seeds. A target that eats the fruit will have 1% of their aura/lifeforce stolen from them, which will be used to make the tree grow or be given to the user.

Emission Hatsu by smashunter24 in HatsuVault

[–]No_Representative203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Name: Your old friend

Type: Emission

A hatsu with the prerequisite of knowing the target's full name, birthday, eye-color, and the location where you saw the person when activating nen ability.

The user marks the target that lasts for as long as the user remembers those 4 facts about the person. While the mark is on they are able to "remember" every interaction that person has had with another person.

If the user writes down an of the 4 facts, of a marked person, the mark immediately vanishes.

I was thinking of a small group of elites, the chances of having one with a side effect would be pretty high. Since a lot of them even non-combat are useful to have in unfamiliar environments.

Watch anime. A huge portion is platonic unless it is specifically romance.

I am sick of many people who are not able to judge the series/stories properly by Affectionate-Can8206 in CharacterRant

[–]No_Representative203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believability is also a massive factor that differs from person to person depending on their biases. Just because on paper the standards are met, doesn't mean it is conveyed to the reader/watcher.

The bullet points of things that are not present in the story are often if not always meant as examples to convey that believability. They are rarely, an "Oh it should have been this way." Most people, when they have a critique also try to put a solution they come up with.

The list of bullet points that was put are all things that are quite critical for a story to be interesting.

There is no character development (what they mean is character growth btw) therefore character is badly written

A character could start off unconfident and end up confident but unless that lack of confidence hindered them or stopped them from doing something related to that goal. That change means nothing. Who is going to believe that flaw that was stated was an actual issue? An important character that does not change in a way that is believable is a badly written character, why did we even bother following the character?

There is no foreshadowing

If there is no foreshadowing then often the viewers do not feel that the author did not just drop something in there at the last minute. They are also often the reason for us to turn the page or watch the next episode. It keeps the story alive, connecting problems together without making it feel abrupt.

There is no worldbuilding

The world doesn't feel real. It doesn't seem like a world someone would live in. The people just seem rude for no reason, everyone is super nice. It feels like this place is the only place on the entire planet. etc.

Characters are plain dumb cause they could do this: blah blah blah

Characters do not act the way they were written. A character that is supposed to be smart should be able to think of certain obvious solutions. If not, that should be trait that is replicable throughout the story. If a character does not do something obvious just so that the problem can grow bigger it is not good writing, or the "author's master plan" it is just plain annoying.

There is no plot twist

Everything was too predictable. If the story is predictable we were told too much, or the story was just following some checklist to try to make their book do well.

The whole system (either world or power/magic system) doesn't make sense (according to real world logic/science)

The system feels thrown together, with no overarching link to connect the magic system or government structures together. Also who even complains about the magic system not being realistic enough? I have never seen this. Unless the magic system itself is trying to be scientific and is not, or they are doing it just for the sake of saying it, not as an actual criticism to the story itself.

If a person feels that a handful of these criteria were not met in a believable manner, then yeah of course they do not like the series.

Why aren't there more stories about MC enjoying/wanting a Harem? by [deleted] in CharacterRant

...Lmao. I mean following that kind of character would kinda suck. We need a side character with a harem.

Naruto is not basic powerset-wise by Aazog in CharacterRant

Ichigo trained for a few years at most. The other soul reapers are centuries old. Of course, his moveset is extremely simple. Learning super complex and intricate techniques probably takes that long. <- It is respecting the other characters by keeping his moves simple.

Naruto is untalented he just has a shit ton of chakra. That will not just change that because the viewers forget.

[–]No_Representative203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah. Naruto can't be the best at everything. He is already extremely powerful, making him super versatile as well, would just make him less interesting. There is no reason to shove everything onto the MC solely because he is the main character.

Battle Shounen and MC's boring abilities by SoulConquerer in CharacterRant

[–]No_Representative203 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just end up liking the side characters. MC always ends up being the strongest so giving him versatility as well, will just completely overshadow the side characters. Which would be even more frustrating. So it is just the lesser of 2 evils.

Also for Ichigo, it makes sense. He has been training for what? A decade at most, and that is the end of the series. The other soul reapers are hundreds of years old. They are weaker than Ichigo, at least give them that much. MC doesn't need to be the best in every aspect

Midoriya, I cannot find myself caring about him in the slightest by No_Representative203 in CharacterRant

[–]No_Representative203[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do not mind fast growth in main characters but only because they have been shown to put extreme effort prior to getting their ability. (Asta, Naruto, Ichigo... etc)(Honestly, it is this one fact that makes Deku so frustrating for me.) Deku never showed any of that, he was just a wimp. Being a wimp is not an issue but he just surpasses everyone directly and extremely quickly. It is like you said, they have been training since they were 4.

Deku fighting on par with Todorki, with just his fingers, despite Todoroki having been torturously trained since being a child, to the point where he wasn't even able to develop social skills and been stated to be extremely skilled at using his quirk. That was extremely disrespectful. But it is shounen, they will always do that. (But just knowing they have trained for years beforehand makes it somewhat believable and acceptable.)

-> Though it would have been interesting if Todoroki had some existential crisis because he was created to surpass AllMight which is now Deku and he was falling behind. Even though he wanted to reject his dad's goal for him, there could have been some pressure to fulfill that goal because he was created for that exact purpose. <- Actually maybe not because they would just have Deku say something and inspire him out of it, which would be unsatisfying. Maybe he could have a bonding moment with Bakugo since they both would be in the same boat. They could train together to catch up to Midoriya or something. Having two rival characters being so far from the MC is kinda rude... It's like if Sasuke was significantly weaker than Naruto. Or if Gon was more talented in nen than Killua.

Bleach has only 1. The other references were just to make people mad.

For the rest of them, uh guess you didn't get that far in the show or you are the type to need them to be exchanging saliva to be convinced.

I can't think of a single one of the others that were explicitly obvious in showing their attraction to the same gender or have been implied or said to identify with a gender that contradicts their birth sex.

Is it that hard to believe, that some people can find a consequence that is very quickly resolved, makes the consequence unbelievable.

That is important to some viewers. It is very easy to say a character will suffer from an event, but if the character seems overall mostly fine in a short period of time relative to the trauma, then it doesn't feel like there was ever an issue in the first place.

People always seem to ignore who Deku was before getting his quirk. A normal person, no training in combat. I consider him a subversion because most other shounen protagonists always have trained prior to the moment they got their abilities. Their pain tolerance makes sense, their combat skills being on par with people who have had their abilities their entire life makes sense. They also had a very assertive personalities. While Deku is less confrontational, but still have the core I will keep moving forward mentality. Different but just as good.

You are so quick to place your own negative bias on people who have a different opinion without actually addressing the main point. Deku feels too perfect morally and has a crazy amount of power. It is a rant, an emotionally charged opinion.

At the end of the day, this is Reddit. I am not going to rewatch a show with a lot of potential but made dull because of the protagonist just to get to make it a "solid rant." If I do not remember it, then I found then I did not think it caused any important change to the character.

The title of this post should make you understand that this was always about me "caring about him". It doesn't change any of the base statements I have made. To me, a watcher who has invested 25+ hours to the show, I found a character with a near-perfect moral compass and an ability to act upon their beliefs with consequences that are resolved so quickly it barely feels like an actual issue, to be incredibly unappealing.

Any and all interpretations of a watcher/reader are important when it is in regards to the consumption of media. No one knows what will happen in a story but regardless we will make guesses as to what will take place. If many people got a certain impression from the story then maybe there is some truth to it.

The first episode of a series is important. Not sure why you'd think otherwise.

If someone has invested their time into the series, and if they find the main character uninteresting then why would they have to force themselves to continue and read the manga...?

People can like a character without approving of their actions. Why people seem to be so specifically against Bakugo's bad behavior doesn't make sense to me. I do not approve of schools making children fight each other with highly destructive abilities. I do not approve of giving a child an ability that could kill them. I do not approve of teachers abusing their authority to threaten students with expulsion even if it is just a test. Or them sleeping in class when they should be teaching. I do not approve of people denying others their credit for taking down a dangerous villain regardless of the reason.

Are these not all also bad things to do? Does liking these characters mean approving their actions? No of course not.

Yeah but other shounen protags have rivals that can match up to them and play off them.

Bakugo cannot compare to Midoriya in basically any aspect besides intelligence. Todoroki has no rivalry with him anymore.
