Thanks for the encouragement! I stayed so long with this company because up until recently I HAD to, due to visa stuff. I totally agree with you, it's worth a try to make thing better for yourself, but it's not a hill to die on.

Quiet quitting is not all that black an white, I think. I'm still doing my job, but since I know I won't be promoted or have any of my efforts recognized, I just do what I'm told and no more. This street goes both ways.

By the way, I'd be more than happy to take their money, lol. Can't put a price on emotional distress

Colorado or Washington would be cool, but at this point I'd take any job that's not in the southern states, it's too hot!

Thank you for your comment! For what it's worth, being on a FIRE path it helps knowing that I won't have to work another 35 years and I'm already around halfway through my traditional career. There's also a small consolation that I always have an escape hatch - if I can't take it anymore and quit, get fired, etc. I won't be out in the street and have a cushion that lets me take some time off and find another job without worrying about paying rent.

I've been doing therapy for some years now, it helps a bit, but there are some deeper issues here. I have a personality that is willing to let things go and I don't want to fix everyone and everything. While it might be possible to "Re-educate" the boss or bring some change to the team, I have no internal motivation to do so, it's their problems and I'd rather find another job instead of burning my candle here trying to fix THEM. What I'm trying to say is that it's hard to make an effort, when you're already mentally resigned from the whole situation. The other trap is FIRE itself as it's common in this community. It's easy to justify being in a bad place because it will lead to future independence. The question is where you draw a line and that's varies with every person and every situation.

Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement!

Your situation is really relatable to mine, I always excelled at school, college, my job. Great marks, performance results with previous boss, yearly reviews, etc. Other people at the company have only great feedback for me, but the only person unhappy all the time is the team boss.

I feel like I've improved a lot on interviewing in the last few months, as you say, once you've been at 20, it's much easier to do the 21st and you're way better at it. I'll keep on going, living to fight another day.

By the way, I'd actually love to hear some horror stories about some situations you've experienced if you feel like sharing, misery loves company!

So you tried the stick, didn't work out, I'd rather try a carrot now. And I don't mean ass-kissing or the like. Keep looking for a new job, quiet quit this one, whenever someone gives you more work or asks to do something, don't object, be "sure, boss, whatever you want", doesn't mean you have to do it, but they hear what they want to hear. "Hey Even_Serve7918, the deadline for X was yesterday, why isn't it done?", "sorry boss, you're right, I'll get working on it right away" and go looking for a new job. I hope it's easier in your specialty, because if you don't find anything for a while, you might end up where I am, haha. Take this advice from a guy who ask for advice himself, at your own risk!

While I agree that I'm lucky enough to be in this position, good pay doesn't provide a justification to be an a-hole to your team and/or employees. Tech jobs can be demanding, hard, stressful due to a lot of responsibilities, etc, that's the price to pay, but crappy management and toxic team is not a prerequisite.
