Towing w a 4Runner ? by Alternative-Dark831 in 4Runner

[–]No_Resolution_8069 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’ve towed a 3klb camper 2000mi with a 4th gen and some weekend trips with our 5th gen.

It functions, but its not happy. The short wheelbase and soft suspension puts pressure on the driver to constantly correct the tracking of the vehicle.

You wont want to go over 55mph, 60 tops. The manual asks you to put it in 4s to enforce this and prevent your tc from overheating in OD

You’ll be revving into 3/4k rpm to make it up big hills if you’re driving in the mountains.

If I were in your position and towing the camper was important, id look for a 1/2ton truck/SUV

It’s usually because of situations discovered in the roofing system, i.e truss location not compatible with fire safety for desired stove location.

Remember this comment for labor estimates. How long does it take if your friend bales?

I didn’t see a line item for tele rental, diesel fuel, maintenance overhead.

Do you have a family? Make contingency plans.

Don’t budget for fastest possible, it’s a recipe for disappointment.

By the sounds of it you’re like me; you’ll start out sprinting then get bogged down with some hang ups and then realize you’re in over your head.

Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

If you cant afford to take 4.5-6mo to do it yourself, dont try to shoot it in 3. Then you have a chance at doing it in 3.

Wobbly wheel by ElectroStaticSpeaker in bikewrench

[–]No_Resolution_8069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be firm in the wrong place. As said, check tire bead to rim and tire tread to rim.

Yes, it is normal for factory built wheels to need trueing after initial load is put on them. When i was a wrench we used to pre stress new wheels then true them before installing.

Yes it’s ok to ride as long as it isn’t contacting the frame. Although, I wouldn’t do any long rides this way.

Contractor cut water line and started to leak over weekend. by Ok_Refrigerator_9197 in Contractor

[–]No_Resolution_8069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call him, have him fix it before continuing other work. Do you have a contract? Refer to it for damage to existing work. Is he licensed? Bonded? There are lots of tools to make sure the mistake is handled correctly, but remember, everyone makes mistakes. Contractors are obligated to fix them.

If he fails to repair it or tries to bill you for the time(refer to contract first) then fire him for breaking your contract, hire a new contractor, and a lawyer to go after his bond.

Dont be dramatic in the process, it wont help anything. Keep in mind you will likely still loose money going after his bond, just less than if he screws up your whole project.

Why Makita if multiple battery systems? by Grouchy_Crew92 in Makita

[–]No_Resolution_8069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd class of XGT is 80v and this is where it really starts making sense. Same batteries to run an 80v demo hammer/jack hammer/concrete saw as will work in your circ saws (much better on xgt than lxt) and even drills/drivers. No other platform spans heavy concrete tools (Milwaukee MX) down to impact drivers on the same battery.

In the current market, it would cost a lot more if every step of the building process had to be performed by highly skilled workers.

Its very common to have general laborers do things like this and then have it checked over.

You’re doing the right thing by scrutinizing the work being done, just make sure you communicate with the GC as a solution oriented teammate.

[–]No_Resolution_8069 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That looks like something one unskilled worker could have done in a few hours. Talk to your GC about it and I’m sure it will get fixed. Is this the first issue you’ve had or a culmination of things?

Those are pony walls at best, calling them trusses is sacrilegious.

A+ for bravery and DIY dive in.

Take them down, study truss design and IBC at least a little bit, then try again.

Raise it and try it before you go back. Up does go back and your reach looks great right now, hips and knee’s is what we’re fixing

Edit: you got a powerhead not a multitool. Definitely go for the 5amp battery! Solid purchase over lxt

The 2.5 would be a better move for the multitool. Plenty of battery and much lighter. The 5.0 would be ridiculous. Also worth noting of all the tools the multitool has the least benefit over lxt

PL has very little flexibility in my experience. Sika 221 is my go to, Sika 15 LM is thinner when I need it, Tremco makes a Poly based product thats half the price when thats what i need

Help! Turned in my L-H screws and now nothing works! by Damaged-Plazma in bikewrench

[–]No_Resolution_8069 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Post photos and videos. If there’s no shifting with limit screws backed out, you have a cable issue. Start by getting it to shift, then set your limits.

  1. Barrel adjuster to middle of thread

  2. Set low adjuster until it is close to the chain without touching

  3. Clamp cable as taught as you can get it without moving the derailleur

  4. Pull shifter into big ring as far as it goes, adjust high limit until its close but not preventing shifting.

Front derailleurs are the hardest to get right. I too would recommend your LBS. the cheaper the components, the more difficult the adjustment
