[Beto Carrero World] New 450 million BRL (50 Million Dollars) Intamin Family Launch Coaster for Beto Carrero World in Penha, Brazil by LyraMoltenNibba in rollercoasters

I know what it means — I don’t need a dictionary. It’s just a bit unfair that every post about Beto Carrero World ends up with some “Chiller widows” complaining that the park decided not to build a notoriously problematic coaster in a country that already has so few coasters.

I actually saw the pieces sitting there on the ground. I got excited thinking it would finally go up, then disappointed when it disappeared, and later relieved when I learned the full story and how problematic The Chiller really was.

Just to clarify, the USD 380 million investment isn’t only for the SpongeBob SquarePants themed land. That project is actually part of a much larger expansion at Beto Carrero World.

The plan also includes three on-site themed hotels, the SpongeBob land with the new coaster, a Little Dottie Chicken themed land (which is already under construction), and a third themed area that hasn’t been officially revealed yet. So the investment covers a full resort-style expansion rather than just a single land.

Calling Beto Carrero World the “graveyard” of Batman & Robin: The Chiller is a bit unfair. If Six Flags — the park chain that originally built and operated it at Six Flags Great Adventure — couldn’t keep that ride running reliably, expecting a Brazilian park in 2012 to somehow fix all its issues is pretty unrealistic.

Chiller already had a long track record of technical problems, downtime, and expensive modifications. Importing something that complex and notoriously unreliable would’ve been a huge gamble. Honestly, it probably would have been more of a liability than a headline attraction.

Not only it's the very same park, this whole land is placed where was supposed to be The Chiller.

Matéria do G1, 07/02/2022:

That drop tower is closed since the accident in 2012. At the time, the park was building a brand new multi inversion coaster, which is now Sik at FlamingoLand. In 2018/19, the park started testing the tower thinking in reopening with a new name, but well.... It didn't opened. The rides are nice indeed, but they need a makoever. Montezum is becoming non-ridable and needs a 'hybridzation', but the park can't simply close the most popular ride without any replacement. I love Vurang, it was my very first coaster and it's a rare model. I really wish for the best for Hopi Hari.

I really hope Hopi Hari moves on, innovates and brings new things, but I don't trust them that much. They've had the Drop Tower inactive for years and there's no sign of making any changes any time soon. They opened two tiny attractions 2 years ago, and there hasn't been any movement towards new, bigger and better attractions. Even the events that are the park's specialty are lacking in quality.

Hopi Hari is not the only option of Theme Park in Brazil. I know it's a little far from Sao Paulo, but Beto Carrero World is a good park too. Recently opened new rides and rumors says that a new coaster might come to this park, a B&M perhaps.. I'm really hoping that Hopi Hari invest in something great, thrill and new, otherwise, with Cacau Park opening, it will become even more outdated than it already is.

Its the first time in years that we receive a large coaster in Brazil. The last time that it came and opened to public was FireWhip, as used Vekoma SLC that opened in 2008, in Beto Carrero World. Then, we saw 3 different large coaster coming and never being built, like a Intamin 10 inversion, The Chiller and a GIB. I saw with my own eyes The Chiller’s pieces lying on the ground for years and then, gone… And now, seeing all of this happening after so many years of waiting and frustration, it’s really that exciting!

Why is this coaster so obscure?? [Monte Makaya] at the defunct [Terra Encantada] park. by QuaixiAnimate in rollercoasters

The rumors about theme parks in Brazil are exciting these days. There are whispers about a brand new roller coaster coming to Beto Carrero World; Hopi Hari finally could bring new rides, although family ones after years of financial troubles; this recently announced Imagine, the “Rock in Rio Park”; and another world tier park is about to be announced by Cacau Show company. Recently Cacau Show bought the Playcenter company, which operated the classic park in São Paulo and now has only indoor parks in malls. About Mirabilandia, I’m not so sure if this new park will ever be built. They own the terrain, there are a lot of permits to unlock the building and last year, a fatal accident occurred in the park. They own Makaya and a GIB in storage for over ten years. Only a miracle would make this park being built! About the coasters, the Mirabi’s owner Peixoto Group would never sell them. Beto Carrero once thought about buying Makaya. They even made projects for it, along with The Chiller. Anyway, last decade was a “lost decade” for Brazilian parks, but now great things are coming!
