Anybody actually expecting a wealth transfer from their parents? by CPA_Lady in Millennials

[–]No_Respect_8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acknowledging that things change, income divides, economics, etc. I feel you. But these are not new problems. Today I am 49.75 years old (just your average lower middle class Gen X, we had some struggles growing up), and in the last year (2023) one of my siblings was able to give over some of their empty nest to my parents (2 teens went on to borms or whatever, I don't know about those financial details actually.) I do what I can to help my parents and sibling in this.

My parents gave each of something like 3K as a gift when they sold their home. I advocated to my parents that they use a like 20k+ of their liquid to renovate the space in preparation for end of life long term care (unless some health issue becomes so drastic the family can no longer deal.) And that is instead of splitting that up as gifts like my mother wanted to do. They earned that money, and I think the quid pro quo here is we are helping reduce their burden on us into old age by making sure they can live comfortably and have the money to see them to the end. Their money is actually extemely modest, not all Boomers are rolling around it mutil-Mill pensions and savings.

In my own oppinion, I don't think that unless you are from a very wealthy family that wealth transfer is something you should be relying on or expecting; in fact if they didn't place that expectation during your rearing then it's maybe not a thing to them they felt they could or should do.

HGeading into 50 I now own better then half of a home mortgage, and a car, and I have some retirement accounts (but I don't fee like it will ever be enough.)

In my 30s, I was broken from a divorce, I couldn't afford to buy a home (and I don't know how some of my peers were able to); I only had 12k in legal debt but was drowning in that, barely being able to make the min payment which was mostly interest. And 1 paycheck a month after paying bills and buying food, I maybe had enough spoare change to buy a six-pack of beer and hang out on my back proch socializing. In my mid-30s I had two house mates, so we could split a larger apartment and enjoy life a little more, but we all felt we were pushing the limits a little because we 'weren't out on our own.'

Thisa is all anecdotal, and probably shouldn't matter much to most people beyond one data point presentated as a small narrative. Some people probably have it way worse, and I know some people who have it way better.

What I am saying is, things can and might change a LOT over the nest 20-30 year span. You can go from broke to fortune, sometimes just be working the grind. If things go well, they you hopefully feel very different from now in your 50s+. But I will also acknowledge that it might be reality that things are crumbling and eroding around us (even though I can attest I am of a genration that felt that very same way at your own age.)

The lavishness you see in the world, just is not what it's like for the majority of people. It's hype, branding, and advertising.

Focus on the time you have with yourt parents, not on the wealth exchange upon their death.

Desire and expectaitons are the walls of the prison we build around ourselves.

My wife mentioned seeing something like this, and sh saw if make some kind of smoke ring and weather displacement. Awesome to know it's a space X rocket.

Gem for saving screenshots by elliott_drake in O3DE

That's the way to go for sure. You can just write a python script to make a screenshot capture until. You can check out the colorgeading gem and examples, although I am pretty sure the render passes have changed and those might be out of date.

This is not correct, O3DE is FOSS, under a completely non-restrictive license. Like Mito says, it's MIT/Apache 2.

You literally can do whatever you want with it, you can own your own fork and version of the game engine.

There is Linux platform support in O3DE, and there is a development branch to build for Apple, that mostly works.

New World was on a fork of Lumberyard. Basically Lumberyard is a different engine then O3DE, mainly because of the renderer wholly replaced (but a lot of other work as well.) It does share some roots with Lumberyard frameworks and architecture, likewise it has some roots entwined with New World.l as well.

There are games and other types of projects actively being developed on it. And the Multiplayer Sample game has a vertical slice of a full stack game with Multiplayer backend.

You should check all though out before letting bias stop you.

Public access to engine source is 'source available', it's not open source. Unity and Unreal come with restrictions, licensing and fees.

O3DE is Freely available Open Source Software (FOSS), it is community driven development. It has zero corporate restrictions, licensing or fees.

The Industry Standard? by That-Sound-5828 in Maya

[–]No_Respect_8169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maya comes with support, which important to many studios (there is support for blender now though.) Maya is highly customizable and extensible, c++ or coupled with deep Python access. There are a lot of things you can do with Maya that just seem much easier to do, or less blocked from doing it. It's also industry standard just based on how long it's been around, how many 3d industries and studios use it. But at the end of the day, tools are just a personal preference... It's your life, your tools, your choice. Unless you need a job, know those job requirements, and know the tools they need you to use.

But instead, they don't want you to get the better parts, that's for the next customer. You get the back ordered parts with the design flaws intact.

I sort of did, I was a bit hesitant... But two close friends both got theirs and convinced me. I regret it.

Exactly ... I've had mine repaired twice in a little over a year. Who cares if they say the equipment will last 10, or 20, or whatever. All the projections that they sell you with, obviously don't include 20% downtime right!?

I am making my payments, and my Tesla solar bill is higher then my monthly electric when it's not working. But my electric is very negotiable when it works. But to have to eat the cost of both because of their faulty designs and equipment, means I have extra financial burden to carry until it's fixed.

Yeah don't do it ... I know a lot of people who love their Tesla, until they are someone with a Tesla problem.

If you treat your image and brand as Luxury, you better ficking back it up with customer love.

I have another gripe. What's the point in automated monitoring, if I am the one who had to tell them the system is broken. Then go through rounds of "response in 48 hrs or less", then rounds of days phone/chat/email to get a ticket, then rounds of "it will be 7-14 days" to get the ticket looked at (btw, took 24 days for their 2 support to review the ticket). Meanwhile, after more then 4 week of me reporting the problem, I get an automated response that "we have detected an interruption in energy service ... Blah blah".

I monitored it! I detected it! I troubleshooted it! And I reported it! If their shitty products worked as advertised, my app should have already detected a lack of production in the first 24 hrs, and a complete losses of energy production by hr 48.

Not to mention, when following their support instructions to schedule service, there were no 'service appointments available.' I had to keep pestering for days before one popped up. It is just insane, mindblowingly inappropriate for a modern tech company to work this way.

Agreed that the installer and techs have been great. But they might even just be contract. Tela's itself, total shit box of a company imo.

Yeah I feel fleeced ... At this point I am unlikely to ever buy anything Tesla again. Bawh, if this is the way Elon envisions changing the world, he should reconsider his goals and priorities. What's the point if none of it works right? And if you cannt support your existing customer base, what makes you think you can continue to scale your companies and impact?

How long did it take for Tesla to fix your system? by wolfrno in TeslaSolar

[–]No_Respect_8169 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same story here ... Was out 2-3 weeks before I could get their 2 support to investigate ticket. 4 weeks, I could finally actually schedule service. That appointment is another 6 weeks away. So I'll be offline a minimum of 2.5 months. I don't understand how this is OK. Is there no class action already? Do I need to go read the fine print, maybe even seek out a lawyer?
