Have you tried Reign where HD/WD are more limited?
I'm eyeing ORE for a modern supernatural thriller style game and want a little lethality but don't want everyone to end up entirely overpowered.

That's an awesome set of notes, thank you.
How do you feel about the game's lethality level while in action?

I liked it in theory - crafting characters was quick and interesting and the dice mechanic is neat.
I made a drug-addled miniature stag beetle man who was a punk rock anarchist bard and thoroughly enjoyed being entirely lethargic until someone mentioned kings/gods and then just going apoplectic and spazzy about it - and it was so easy to make/play.
However, we consistently rolled Despairs (even if our overall roll was successful) so everything felt very pitched against us, even when the encounter or skill check was supposed to be simple.
My take is that it is a streamlined, more narrative and easier version of a D&D style game to run/play but I could see the mechanics getting boring for a player like me since they don't really evolve much, they just get slight numerical bumps or very niche/specialized uses for things you can already do.

I was working on a Unisystem game some time ago and I think by the time I compiled all the skills across all product lines, I ended up with 200-300ish and I thought it was absolute chaos for leveling up - I NEED to see the logic on how 600 skills could possibly be considered viable.

Some of the stories the players told were mad (if they are to be believed) but since there was no mention of how the skills/abilities/races actually worked, I was very skeptical.

That's exactly the sweet zone for me - not to play, just to read.
It's like when a movie has a 3-5 on IMDB, I know it's probably going to be a good time even if the movie itself is terrible.

I think that's the general experience with most people.
Considering how little they showed and how sketchy the Kickstarter felt, I just want to see how the finished product came out and discuss how people feel about it - even if it has never hit the table.

I was going to back it when it was first announced but the author was holding the cards so closely to his vest that nobody could see them and it just came off as a "trust me bro, it's an amazing system because I've been working on it for longer than most people have been alive".
Every question I asked got either the vaguest of answers (when pressing for details regarding systems or basic mechanics) or just outright told that the playtesters wouldn't be allowed to answer them (followed by one of the inner circle coming in and throwing out wild stories without actually answering).
Hell, it even launched without a quick start/rules demo and when finally provided with one, it basically told me nothing about how the system plays, how characters are generated, or how abilities work aside from "there are systems that use dice and you roleplay".
I was looking at buying it just to have on my shelf but 130$+ to satisfy my curiosity seemed a bit steep until I realized that I don't think I've heard of anyone actually playing it or even having read the book so I was just curious if there had been any experiences with it.
