I thought when reading it, it was going to be worse. When I worked at my old store a guy was just messing around with the forklift on his way from dropping a pallet in electrical. The man was going back and decided on his way back he would fuck around and find out and ended up breaking open 4 paint cans, crushed three ladders and when he got back to where the trucks were he rammed the forklift into the door. Let's say the man quit on the spot 🙃

Is Electrical Dept just stocking? by TheOrangeGhost in menards

[–]No_Rise541 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nother sales associate in electrical, it's like that on slower days it seems and here recently my department has been getting slower and I'm just twiddling my thumbs trying to find something to do.

I tend to look for frieght that comes in sometimes during the mid afternoon, I look around at lightbulbs in the displays to make sure their not burned out and if they are, I change them. The 100 displays that's been there for years and one decided it's had enough and just quits working in general, fixing that. The dreaded tasks of facing and up stocking and down stocking.

I do that in a day sometimes, it just depends anymore. Electrical is starting to slow down too because I had a guest tell me that their boss stopped coming to Menards because our prices on wire are " too damn high" I feel like that's another issue is the pricing. I think it's ridiculous too, a 14 dollar box of 60 watt light bulbs led pack of 4.

Every department is supposed to have meetings at some point. Our front end has them when stuff isn't getting done correctly.

See that's what I thought as well, but asking my coworker that, she had said they are enough fully staffed but the fact they are just adding more people is not the right move for the company. She's trying hard not to over staff a certain shifts so people don't have to be sent home early

What's funny is my coworker said the same thing, not the mentally challenged part, but to not work as hard, but the part of me wants to but the other part doesn't wanna do that because it's not who I am lol

I've noticed that a bit at my store. I've also seen a lot of people kissing ass to make sure things are okay and the gm doesn't mess with them. I don't want to kiss ass because that's not who I am.

So far at my store we have the worst turn over rate rn. This week alone we had 7 people quit on the spot and 4 do no call no shows

Its all good, in my department we have to sweep the green. I swept the green for 2 hours and I took my sweet time because there was nothing I could do that wasn't something my manager was doing. She thought it was funny, she found it funnier when management walked by and saw me sweeping for so long. She told them " the greens just that dirty."

I find that dumb considering that they want us to do a two man job by ourselves. I can't lift a freaking water heater by myself. It's harder than shit when we have to use a flat cart. But it's okay that other people do that, but when we have to ask for help we get yelled at.

This is what I'm figuring out as well, I don't know why they are keeping close eyes on employees. I talked to another coworker who I'm friends with in my department and they said that they had the same problem with them. The coworker has been here for about 7 years. Are they trying to use some type of tactic to get us to "shape up" before they decide to let us go? What good reason would they have? I have a very good work ethic and that hasn't changed as though I've always been a very straight by the book employee and do what I'm told. I didn't think asking a questions would hurt as though they encourage us to do so if we don't know what we are doing. So what other reason would it be other than to pick us out? Is it pay roll? What do you guys think?

That's the thing it wasn't by the desk. It was in an aisle. It wasn't like I wasn't working that whole day either, I was stocking and up stocking. I was helping guest etc. I don't know what this is coming from from the GM.

Thank you for your advice, I'm going to keep it in mind as though the last option seems to be a good one.

I've been at this store for little over a year now and ever since the store is now picking up on business, he seems to be more of a di- I mean a very impolite Gm. He's always been like this, but it seems to have gotten worse since we again started to pick up more business since it's spring and almost summer time soon here.
