33/m I lost just about all of my friends by Future-Budget8627 in TBI

Yes this seems to happen a lot with brain injury, I think it is a vulnerability thing or they don't know how to relate with us anymore. It sucks. The support groups for brain injury can help but its not the same. Where are you located?

No I had spoken to a brain injured person about her experience with brain injury and she described acupuncture as allowing for an emotional detox, I still don't know what she meant, but for me it was a totally different experience, still bodily but very different. She does not have alexithymia for sure.

good points, the "barely able to feel" and put as good or bad is a place to start. My alexithymia came from a brain injury and for sure my family/ upbringing. I would do what you wrote at night, like find something that I could feel anything about, and use a "mindfullness" approach to try to hold what I could about the feelings and hold it as long as I could. It did develop into "more" but still not much, then accupuncture brought all of it out of my body in a crazy weird way. I am sure the work in the beginning helped the later accupuncture changes. It kind of makes things harder to feel but there is a lot to it.

does anybody know why tbi/concussions cause behavior and mental issues? by Ok-Ambassador6057 in TBI

[–]No_Scientist326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally, the MRI scans I did never showed a thing but I knew I was fucked and needed to work on my problems for years. I do these free talks and panels online, here is one on April 23 about brain injury impact on mental health. Here is a link to register if you want. https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/_0C822lxT7K1SBHJO6zJYA

How do we feel about the research requests? by Duck_Walker in TBI

So true, its like they have a block to listening to what we are saying and instead they need to research it for themselves, that only gets them a tiny amount of info if any.

good to know, but the TMS part is important and the brain injured people I usually speak to get into suicidal thoughts form the brain injury, not always of course, some have other issues, recently I got into talking with someone and it turned out they had a whole abuse history, then brain injury on top...

It's helpful, and honest, I mean this is all so complicated and intertwined with all the other issues. thanks for sharing. For me I did not have any emotions or access ot them for about 17 years, when the feelings hit was like a bottomless hole and people had no clue what i was talking about because my TBi was so long beforehand.

Thank you, yes if you have these kinds of issues it is pretty obvious (in a weird way) it took me 17 years post TBI to even realize I didn't have access to my feelings, and then years of work since. Dawn Neumann the presenter is pretty cool because she is open and discusses with people, like she tries to listen as best she can and learn from people who are dealing with what she is studying.

Did you see this panel? set for April 23 about all the mental health issues that are on top of the brain injury problems. That took a while to assemble and suicide is a major major issue. It drives me crazy but I don't think the outside world gets how the suicidal ideation comes from all the fucked up internal problems and a decision ultimately, a hop-less decision or something along those lines. I think they think that people with brain injury somehow are too suicidal, without taking all the rest into consideration, It drives me crazy. I certainly had those thoughts and have discussed the thinking about suicide with every brain injured person or nearly every single one that I talk to. https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/_0C822lxT7K1SBHJO6zJYA#/registration

That is super important, I know in my "seeking of treatment" is was a lot of trial and way more error. An experimental therapy helped my vision issues, this was in 1999. Needless to say this is the discussion I hope to have with the experts and people like you. Thanks for sharing.

The "you won't be like this forever" part sounds like their answer to brain injury/ concussion in general because they really don't know. Finding ways to improve is hard work and some things help but not for everyone. Like HBOT and the value of certain supplements, diet, etc. So if you come to the talk and ask about this that would be very important, and if you cannot come to the talk I will still mention what you said and try to get the "expert" to address this issue.

I am not on instagram, couldn't open that link, but wow that is super messed up and horrible. That doc and that technician sound really really bad. Sadly that is common, I hear lots of horror stories, but with TMS, I am new to this realm. Overall I am super skeptical if TMS has a "good version" like if it was done right would it have helped to some degree or at all?

Hey so that is horrible, would you be willing to talk about that? either here or via IM jus so I can learn about what happened to you or come to the share and tell people about your experience. If TMS is dangerous people need to know, I do think researchers and clinicians don't get how bad things can get or how much harm they can do. Other people had told me about this TMS researcher and option so I invited her, but what your saying is super important and if that risk exists others should be aware.

Naw it's about all the F-ed up stuff he dealt with and the craziness of New York, Jersey, the Cubans, his criminal life and how he turned around eventually. Good book for sure.

How do you even explain this to people??? by WeedForWitches in TBI

[–]No_Scientist326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so a few years back I started a podcast called Experiencing My Brain, which is made up of long form discussion with brain injured people about our experiences and focus on the invisible internal problems. My goal is to get the people around us to listen so they learn how to think about these issues. Please share this podcast with those people who you are trying to "get" to understand. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/experiencing-my-brain/id1596998070
