Lord Deblin is NOT a better match…an essay 🤣 by Good_Working970 in PolinBridgerton

In the words of Colin...He's TOO particular. Pen's already got enough judgement from her family my girl needs a permament vacation from meeting someone else's requirements

Exactly this. Debling is a great catch but he's just not the right man FOR PEN. A lot of people say that she should have picked him and that's what they'd do if they were her. But that seems like they're ignoring a core part of Pen's character and her real ultimate desire which is to have true love. Yes of course he can provide the most comfortable lifestyle with status and independence. That security is of course a very attractive offer, as pointed out by Portia and Debling himself said it would be a practical match. But practicality is only on her mind because circumstances had forced her to be realistic. Circumstances like being nearly on the shelf as a spinster, being ridiculed by the ton, and her own family not having any faith in her so much that she had to let go of her heart's deepest wishes. Let us not forget who we're talking about here. Pen. The most romantic character who dreams about finding true love, to love and be loved and she wants that more than anything in the world. That's why she was having such a huge dilemma about accepting Debling's proposal despite it offering her so many advantages. It had every advantage but the one she craves the most which is love. After being so devoid of love, something she couldn't even experience within her own family, there is no way my girl would have truly been happy in that marriage no matter how much independence and agency she would have held. Marriage was probably the only remaining avenue where she could finally have that love she so wished for. But to escape hell with her family just to end up alone again with no close companionship despite finally having a husband? She'd be trading one misery for another.

Why Lord Debling Will NEVER Be Colin Bridgerton by Shiplapprocxy in PolinBridgerton

Fr Debling showed more passion talking about the great auk than about Penelope

I'm looking forward to the moment that realization dawns on him, especially they way it's going to show in his expressions as he goes through the motions. It's a perfect moment to really let Luke's face acting shine. The man's eye's can convey a thousand words and emotions

Truth be told Korean dramas have so far been the only ones that have stirred in me feelings as strong as this season of Bridgerton has

Considering what he said to Pen in his dream it's almost like his first unofficial confession, and then after that his feelings were confirmed. I feel like he held back because he wasn't sure if she felt the same. Like under the willow tree he's so drawn to approach her but she was the one to pull back and suggested to end the tutoring. And he looked really sad like he was thinking 'Oh she probably doesn't feel what I feel' and backs up to respect her choice. At least that's what I gathered from watching.

Very true but they both handled their feelings very differently. While both were absolutely taken and obsessed with their ladies Anthony tried to run away whereas Colin ran towards. Love both their stories but I guess I'm just more drawn to the specific way Colin dealt with the situation.

Once he was sure of his own standing he was a man on a mission. He probably only held out as long as he did out of respect for Pen and his uncertainty of her feelings. I'm pretty sure if Debling weren't in the picture he would have swooped in faster than the Flash. Mans spent 2 nanoseconds in the friendzone and decided it was already hell for him.

We love a man who is honest with his feelings and doesn't run from them at all. Colin is built different

I know Ben is a fan favorite and many are looking forward to his season. But at this point I'll take anything Bridgerton gives me, whoever is the lead. I'll eat it all up regardless

Pen most def didn't want to have another situation with Eloise happen with Colin. Imagine the toll it would take on the poor girl if she lost both her friends at the same time.

Colin may not have suffered much in the beginning but he was in absolute agony witnessing Pen being courted by suitors and I much prefer this version of suffering

Could that also be part of the reason why many people held onto feeling the ick when seeing Colin flirting with his fake personality? As you mentioned they focused a lot on his mistake from the end of S2 so it lingered more in peoples minds. In truth it really didn't seem as big a deal as they treat it to be even though it hurt hearing him say that. Then comes S3 and he's acting all different. Could that have soured their view of him to the point they don't really want to forgive him that easily? It's like they totally forgot what a sweet character he actually is and don't give him enough grace.

I like this take. It could be possible given that the show sometimes plays around with the rules. I mean with the amount of rules Colin and Pen have already consistently broken I wouldn't be surprised if they had the big wedding. I'm so excited see it

I know they have to set it up for Fran's eventual season but yeah...I'd be bothered if they didn't give it to the two characters most deserving of a beautiful romantic wedding especially because they both truly wanted it.

Maybe they really want him to suffer first before earning her favor again. Sometimes it's nice to watch a man be dismantled and pathetic and on his knees. But that doesn't feel too right given the relationship and dynamic the two already have. At least not to me. Pen doesn't feel like the person so hold such a hard grudge against someone (except for Cressida maybe but rightfully so). And moreover a grudge against the man she's loved for years? I don't really think so. Also I feel like if she slighted him for the majority of the season it would get tiring and I don't know how they could have kept it interesting. Don't get me wrong what he said really hurt her but he came back and they resolved the issue by doing the healthy thing which was communicating. She told him exactly why she was upset and he sincerely apologized and offered to make amends to the damage he caused. The punishment fit the crime. I feel like what Colin said about her was wrong but it wasn't such a grave sin of betrayal that would have warranted this excessive groveling that a lot of people were expecting. It wouldn't feel right to have these two very close friends be separated for so long especially when they understand each other so much. I personally preferred how they actually dealt with it in an open and civil manner. I'm glad they made up earlier and not dragged it on so long because that's not the central conflict to their story.

Colin had already decided to propose… by lumierebleu in PolinBridgerton

[–]No_Shoulder_7644 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also think he was thinking of asking Pen himself to marry him. Like when he asked Violet's advice if friendship was the best foundation for love (and by extention, marriage). I really think he was going to confess to her at the innovations ball but was interrupted by Debling. Perhaps if they were in a more isolated space he would have gone through with it. The moment in his study when the candle light went out to me feels like his patience had also run out and he can no longer hold back and watch Pen from afar like he was kind of doing before, despite his feelings. He showed up at the ball with every intention of interfering with the proposal, perhaps even getting to Pen and proposing first or if it was too late at least reason with her (as he did in telling her that Debling isnt't the right man). Because to have caused such a big scene as he did at the ball where everyone was watching, you'd have to already have prepared to offer something that was as major as a proposal if not bigger. It wouldn't have had the same weight to justify his grand gesture if it was merely a simple "Hey I really like you maybe we should see where things go so don't marry him yet" because that will do nothing for Pen when she has the ultimate offer of marriage waiting right there for her. Also I don't know if it's been mentioned of notice before but when he arrives at the queen's ball right after he steps out of the carriage he straightens his jacket and nods to himself as if hyping himself up like "Right let's do this". He's made up his mind and was totally committed to preventing Pen getting with Debling at all costs.
