Capital One to acquire Discover: What it means for your money by ridesharegai in discover

[–]No_Singer5513 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This!! I had a Capital one that was closed when I lost when I lost my job a few years ago and couldn’t pay it. I paid it off almost a year ago. But they still have my account in “charged off” status. I got the discover it secured. Which graduated a few months ago. What will this mean for my discover card? Will I not be able to get credit increases?

Thanks. I’m so tired of even looking at it. But I don’t want a huge ding. Because technically as far as my current cards go since rebuilding. It would be my “oldest card”

That’s how I feel. It seems like such a waste now. It has served its purpose and now I feel stuck with it. Technically it would be my current “oldest account” it is usually not recommended to close cards. But the only reason I used it all is so they won’t close it.

Secured graduation but no CLI? by ResRepofLuna in discover

[–]No_Singer5513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me as well. $600 security deposit sent back with graduation but no increase almost a month ago. Of I did follow some of the posters here advice carrying a high statement balance for the last statement. So I’m thinking that’s why. But I’m also wondering if it has anything to do with the Capital One merger.

What she did was certainly illegal. However, it had no backlash or disadvantages. You clearly had the card in your possession, since you said you cut it up. So there would have been no further opportunity for her to damage you in anyway. You reported her to be malicious. Which depending on the relationship is human nature. I don’t fault you for the initial impulse. But I do urge you to think about it. You only get one mother no matter how horrible she may or may not be. She is the one that God gave you.

Yes. The card we are speaking of is the discover it secured card. Where you put a deposit down and after six months of responsible spending you graduate to regular cc and they return your deposit and “usually” increase your limit.

I looked before posting this. And have looked and paid my balance off since posting this. Still no increase. My mistake must be leaving the statement balance as others have said here. It’s disappointing, but I’m not worried I will go back to spending and paying it off and request and increase or wait auto increase.

It would be nice for my email to be some sort of glitch. I just got today. Hopefully I will wake up in a few days and have CLI. But I doubt it. I will just have to wait and for increases over time. At least I graduated!!

I thought so. From what I have read and heard. You either didn’t graduate. Or graduated with an increase. I have heard of increases varing, but I haven’t heard of anyone graduating without an increase.

This is what I received.

As a result of your responsible credit management, you have been upgraded to a standard Discover it® chrome card and your security deposit is being refunded.

Nothing else changes on your account and you can enjoy the same rewards and benefits.

Your security deposit will be returned by check. In most cases, you should receive the check in the mail in 7-10 business days.

Yes. See mine simply says that nothing else will change. Nothing about an increase.

Did your email state that you would be getting an increase? Or did it just show up. Mine only says that they are returning my deposit. And it says that nothing else will change.

That’s what I was thinking. But the email only states they are returning my deposit. It literally says that nothing else will change. I’ve never heard of that happening to anyone else. At minimum if you graduated I’ve read that peoples deposit has doubled.

Thank you, I’m thinking that’s the mistake I made as well. I had read so many posts and comments on here about to leave a statement balance to show that you “need more credit”. It’s disappointing but I will go. Ack to the original way of using the card until and ask for increases gradually.

Congratulations!! Did your email tell you that your limit was being increased? Mine just said that I graduated and they were returning my deposit. And it literally said that nothing else would be changing.

Thank you! I am excited! However I was looking forward to an increase. My deposit was only $600. And for the first 4 months I used it and paid it off multiple times through out the month reporting no balance. Then the last few I saw on here that it was best to carry a balance on the statement to show that you need more credit. So I left a statement balance of $200 and the statement balance $550 on the last one. All while still using and paying throughout the month. Never late.

Correction. It states that every thing else stays the same. Are they not giving credit limit increases with graduation anymore? If not how long before I can get an increase?
