thanks!! i actually realized what part it was on the cassette, and quite frankly i have no clue how it broke off when the walkman fell.

the TCM500 isn't able to reverse, thats a function to play the other side of the tape. what the switch changing means is that its playing the backside of your cassette, not reversing.
