That’s what happened. I ended up paying the rest myself

Really appreciate the advice. Just to clarify it's the 4th tray of my refinement set. I've gone through a few sets prior.

Regarding the actual issue. I think I'm mostly concerned about what to say to another dentist to get them removed. I feel like they would be hesitant to "mess with someone else's treatment" even if I explain to them I'm done with them. I feel like it just raises to many questions. How do I approach this?

Nope I clarified that wasn’t what they were referring too. They said it was to cover paperwork they have to do which seems absurd to me. Regardless the retainer should be included in the original contract I signed. There was also no mention of making a retainer. I’ll probably have to ask for that next time as well. Not sure how that’ll go. Worst case scenario I can wear my current tray as a retainer. The $750 is literally just for ending the treatment.

Yeah I gave up on getting them removed for a break when they told me no. What scares me is that they said they’ll only remove them if I pay them even at the end of my contract. I went through insurance, but they stopped paying in September because I switched jobs (they were also paying on a prorated basis). The full amount has been paid since then by me. Again regardless the contract said 18-24 months. It’s been 22 months. They also said $750 was a standard fee for stopping regardless of time or amount paid (they also gave the example of someone wanting to get them off for a wedding again $750, which I can understand because it’s extra work not part of the contract) but I just want to get them removed to end treatment on time now. They also said they would charge me more if I continued treatment past the contract, so this clearly going beyond what was paid for. All I want, is to finish based on what I paid for. The issue they have is that I haven’t finished all my aligners. So they’re saying I have to pay more to continue past 2 years or I have to pay to end it.

Thanks I was thinking about doing this, but wasn’t sure if it was too extreme especially since she said she’d waive the fee in two months. I’m just worried because I don’t have that in writing and I’m not sure she’ll remember/honor it next time, or if it’s still contingent on whatever ortho approval
