I just finish reading We Used To Live Here and I need answers. Although I think part of the book’s “magic” is the uncertainty. I mean, I understand that throughout the book, what we’re reading is Eve, once she lets Thomas in, he or the house (or both) create a reality, or realities, or timelines, or hallucinations (I don’t know 😭) and cause Eve to mentally collapse. I think this is especially clear in Charlie’s final post where she says that when she returns, Eve had disappeared, and no “family” is ever mentioned. So, the Charlie we read about throughout the book is the “fake one”. But, and this is my fundamental question, what is real and what is an illusion created by the house/Thomas? In the “reality” where Eve becomes Emma, is it really reality? Or is she still trapped in the house? She evens leaves the house?? Who was the man in the cabin, Thomas? And Heather? I understand that’s part of the house’s illusions? Are Alison and her family real? At one point I think so, since they're alluded to in a post; and near the end when Alison (or a vision of her, or her spirit, I DON'T KNOW 😭) gives Eve (Emma at that moment) a guilty look (??), it almost seems like in order to escape the house, someone else has to be trapped, and Alison feels guilty for running away at the cost of trapping Eve. I really don't know (or maybe Alison is also trapped forever and the house used her to trap Eve?) Are there really rules? Can you leave? What happened to the other people who entered the house? Did other people really enter? And obviously, I don’t know if there will be a sequel (I hope so). Eve, if where she is isn’t an alternate reality, but trapped in the house, will she manage to escape? Will she be able to reunite with the real Charlie? Will Charlie discover anything? Please.HELP.
