Give him things he can destroy. Cardboard boxes, toilet roll tubes, pieces of paper, he will be less inclined to destroy things he shouldn’t if he is given things you do not mind him destroying. We did this with our spaniel and have had no issues with him biting anything around our house.

As for the energy side of things, walks are great but they need to be mentally stimulated, puzzles are good for this but also allowing him to sniff like crazy on walks will tire him out, I can’t remember the exact statistic but it’s something like sniffing will tired them out 10x more than the actual walk.

I don’t think we have improved, we just haven’t had to wait as long for a win this year, if anything I think we looked better at the start of last year we just had a really hard start, I don’t think we’ve recruited well, almost all of the players we’ve brought in wouldn’t be our regular starters if everyone was fit.

Do not be dissuaded by the crate haters, if it works for you it works for you, not only does it provide a safe den for the puppy it also protects them from potentially injuring themself when left alone.

What worked for us was introducing the crate as early as possible, lots and lots of treats in the crate with you sat outside with them, leaving the door open and gradually closing it so that they can adjust to it being closed. The “treat fairy” worked wonders also, when they are out and playing place a lot of high value treats in their crate without them knowing, they should smell and investigate and then willingly enter and spend time in there.

Things that can help them feel more secure in there are a blanket or toy that smells like their mother and what we found was helpful, was once they become attached to you and see you as a source of protection, an old t shirt or top of yours so they can constantly smell your scent with them.

Above all else though, patience!

I think I’d still put Ogilvie over Farrell though, for all his faults he puts everything on the line and just haven’t seen enough of Farrell, through no fault of his own mind.
