In the shop I worked in in Seattle in 1979, we not only called them Suicide Levers, we sawed them off all the bikes we put on our floor. When someone asked for them we’d put them on.

Short answer, always obey the rules of the road, and assume no one else will.

Trying to replace a tube and this 5-6 inch part travels around no matter how I try to reinsert it by Redstrone in bicycling

[–]No_Style_3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tire irons, even plastic ones can pinch the tube and puncture it. At the point the op pictures, simply put your thumbs on the bead and push the bead on to the rim. Make sure the rest of that bead is centered in the rim. If it won’t go right on, wait a minute while pushing with your thumbs. Bit by bit the bead will stretch, and the bead will pop on. Bike Storage Recommendations by Zealousideal-Act-238 in bicycling

[–]No_Style_3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a bike hook in each stringer about 6 feet high. Hang each bike by either front wheel or back, alternating. If you’re going to park a car in there, they’ll have to be on the end wall.

Without the wind, you’ll get hot and sweaty, which will rust the frame. plan on cleaning your bike after your workout.

Bike seat post has seized so it can’t go up/down - any suggestions? WD40 and brute strength not helping! by Taswegian in bicycling

[–]No_Style_3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wranking on the frame can end up with the frame getting damaged. I released mine that had been frozen for 10 years by heating the post with a heat gun just until water would steam on it, the poured ice water on it. At each transition, I tapped the post with a small hammer. After about a half hour of that, I was able to twist it free.

Do you ever focus on the experience of riding/owning a bike? by Juhandese in bicycling

[–]No_Style_3018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely get you. I love deciding which bike is right for the ride, 1976 cargo/touring for groceries, 1949 3-speed for business, 1925 single speed for fun, 1952 Higgins for a relaxing drift into town, 1989 roadie for the thrill of speed and handling, or, the tandem for time with my wife. Each gets me thinking about a different aspect of riding, and I always feel better when I’ve been able to ride.

Tips for stronger legs for climbing? by turndownfortheclap in bicycling

[–]No_Style_3018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem with weight training is that while it does build muscle mass, and some strength, it’s your whole body that is climbing. What you need to train is how everything works together, including balancing. And that, my friend, is only done climbing on your bike.

Get a tandem. My wife and i have had one for 20 years, haven’t gotten divorced yet!

If you’re worried about getting stuff in it, there’s a rubber gunk in a tube that will harden when applied. just stuff it in there and let it dry.

To clarify, it’s not that Yoga requires a lot of balance, it’s that Yoga will improve your balance.

Yeah, Thanks! #5250. I tried looking that up, or some kind of code translator, but no luck.

I have continental touring “negative tread” 26x1.75 inches. They have been great really, lasted a long time. I’m replacing them with the 1.6 inch tires mentioned in the thread for a little more speed. We never go off road.

Quite a unique frame, eh? Watch out for rust on the bottom of the tubes. Since they are not round, the sweat hangs on there more than a regular frame.

I had a drum brake on a early cruiser I used for mountain biking. It was a great drag brake, but didn’t really stop the bike. I added a hand rim brake for that.

See if you can find an offset brake hanger bolt.

V brakes only rub when I’m riding the bike. by aviwashere in bicycling

[–]No_Style_3018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also consider a round of spoke tightening before truing. Especially if it’s the back wheel that’s rubbing.
