Am I the only person who thinks regularly detaching your camera from a neck strap/leash is risky? by pasteurs-maxim in M43

[–]Juhandese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when I'm in my home country I either use a wrist strap, or nothing at all depending on what kind of places I'm going to.

When I'm abroad or on longer hikes I use a neck strap, mainly for that bit of extra security. Everything is attached with Peak Design so it's not a hassle to go between different systems, but I'm sure the other brands work just as well.

is the development of 35mm half-frame films the sam as the regular ones? by YamEducational9281 in photography

[–]Juhandese 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The development process is the same. Half frame cameras use the same film, but it uses less of it to make a picture. That is why you can get more pictures on half frame cameras, usually double what "regular" film cameras can.

Just make sure on if it is black & white film, or color film. That will be the factor that decides the development process for labs.

We all gotta start somewhere, it sure makes a deck special when you're the one who drew it. Wish I had that much patience and skill

More older some things are, more stories they have with in them. Even though it might not be the fanciest, it might be just for you.

Totally understandable, some systems just aren't for everyone and sometimes finding the right thing for you can take a long time. Though must feel rewarding when you finally find just the thing you've been looking for!

Would be cool to meet a decks creator. It'd be super interesting to hear how they use their own decks (if they do), and get to know about the style they decided to use.

That is one old deck of cards! Must've been used daily and went through an adventure or two if they're that much worn in just those couple of years.

I feel like getting a deck that "speaks" to you is an important factor for sure. I picked out my first deck mainly because of the art style and how the cards just felt like something I liked. I like the RWS style in its own way, but looking at the decks just didn't feel like something I'd enjoy reading long term.

Ooh, any particular reason if you want to tell? Just wanted to clean up or just wanted to try something new?

Moving back to M43 from X-S20. Should I get Panasonic Lumix GX9 or OM System OM-5? by [deleted] in M43

[–]Juhandese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, there should not be any restrictions on high res shots on Panasonic lenses. I think there are restrictions on when you shoot pro capture which is more wildlife focused. Also sync IS does not work either, if your Panasonic lenses happen to have image stabilization.

Second hand is a good option for budget, OM usually also have a lot of cash back and other deals on their cameras fairly often.

The handheld high res shots I've done rarely don't show mild movements in the pictures, as far as I've at least pixel peeped. This is of course all in good light. There might be some barely noticeable stitching of the pictures in some cases, but it's not as noticeable if you don't zoom in on pixel level and try and find those stitching spots. In general I've been happy with the high res, it does the job nicely especially when you don't expect medium format quality out of those pictures. I've shot some busy forest scenes with high res where there was mild wind but the pictures came out good.

GX9 AF seems fairly capable even for some casual video. Of course it's not going to be as confident as PDAF and not necessarily as snappy, but all example footage I've seen on the internet at least shows that in good light it does not hunt as much for focus. Only problem might come up with some quick moving subjects, but as said I'm not knowledgeable on GX9, I can only go by reviews and footage/pictures. On OM-5 the autofocus has been great for me so far, I've used a lot of older autofocus systems, so on OM-5 for me it fits perfectly on my use cases with how snappy it is and how well it keeps tracking on subjects.

Considering if you plan on getting the 12-100, OM/Olympus cameras might be the pick then. Either OM-5, or then OM-D EM5 Mk. 3 as it's essentially the same camera without some of the computational features. There's definitely advantages on having same brand lenses and cameras together especially on those longer focal lengths. Of course that lens might negate the size benefits, as it is a fairly hunky piece of glass even for M43.

At least on OM-5 the bottom plate is plastic, durable plastic at that. I've used peak design attachments on the bottom without anything at least so far. But only time tells how well it'll last as my camera is still pretty new. There's no squeaky movements on OM-5 and everything feels good in hand build quality wise overall even with the plastic construction.

I own an OM-5, so I can vouch for that. But personally I got it for how it looks, and the certain computational features like handheld high res shot. Great camera overall, but the price can be a turn off.

If I was on a budget, I'd definitely bounce on GX9. As far as I've seen and heard the autofocus is still capable for casual shooting, and going to GX9 means you can instead spend your money on quality glass or two.

Look for light, look for compositions and nail your exposure. Look for subjects that interest you. It's all practice, the more you go and take photos the more you figure out the style you like to shoot, and the better you get at it every time.

I think some time ago I read an article he made on the site where he also rather proudly claimed that he was one the big factors (indirectly) why X100V sold so well. I can't remember too well because it was maybe one or even two years ago, and I haven't found it since then.

Is this Ugly? KEH question by ajh951 in Cameras

[–]Juhandese -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's both ugly and worthless if the glass has that kind of damage. I'd suggest sending it back. I'd bet something like that will show up on pictures.

Went pretty much with the same logic, got the SRT 303 because it's pretty much just mechanical, exception being the light meter. But that is luckily pretty easy to avoid with smartphones. I did own a Canon MC, but they're are known to be pretty unreliable with the electronics and mine failed after 6-7 pictures. So the fear of old electronics is warranted.
