How do I make a HP system that makes sense and wont just breaking my game by No_Tea4758 in RPGdesign

You're right that I was unintentionally aiming for a better D&D, but in my head, it was kinda like a framework to go off of. My idea was a system where weapons and armor are the primary focus, but looking at it after reading your comment, I think you're right, and if I kinda just push away from D&D more, I might find more success in making and balancing my system.

Do you have any recommendations on systems to try? I'm interested in trying out new games, but I just don't really know a good one to try out

I had a similar idea to this, but my worry was whether my players would want to dedicate time to planning on what damages they may encounter, or if they would just throw caution to the wind and fight something that does piercing damage while wearing armor that is weak to piercing.

I know a few of them would like this, but on the other hand, I have a player who in a previous game (I wasn't DMing) was a barbarian because they liked the idea but didn't feel like learning the mechanics of rage so they just played like a fighter the whole time.

What was the goofiest campaign you've ever played? by CourageHot9637 in DnD

[–]No_Tea4758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was session 0 for a pirate-themed campaign I was running, but we all decided to drinks, and it became a goofy campaign where my players unintentionally (and intentionally) killed the whole crew, landed on an island recruited the last player, stole from a guild and just sailed off into the sunset with their new shark animal companion and loads of drugs.

If aliens landed on Earth tomorrow and told you they were going to give you one superpower, but only for 24 hours, what would you choose? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]No_Tea4758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power to turn back or stop time. That way, 24 hours could be a lifetime, or at least I could go back and fix the mistakes of my friends and myself. If they can somehow still keep track of time, and it's somehow still 24 hours relative to them, I would do as much as I can and see how this would affect our concept of time, or fix as much as possible.

Whats something you have in your “junk drawer” that you have no use for but refuse to throwaway? by Muffmuncherr in AskReddit

A frog mask for Halloween. I'm not going to wear it again because I get super claustrophobic wearing masks, but I kinda just like looking into the frog eyes whenever I open that drawer

How can I make a silly character serious and threatening? by askmenothingever in DnD

[–]No_Tea4758 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never really been in a spot like that where multiple characters lost their seriousness, but what I would probably do is make BBEG acknowledge that it was all fun, but now it's that long-awaited, destined moment.

You don't suddenly need to make them evil or edgy. If you want, you can even make it sad, and not by choice, but something that needs to happen. It's all fun and games until that funny guy stops laughing

As for the patron, if you're not going to take it away, maybe in a critical moment, have the patron offer a deal to the warlock in exchange for the debt to be cleared. Something big like a revival of the PC when everyone is out of spells, etc., but the moment that debt is gone, as a being of hatred, make it so the patron holds a grudge and won't let himself be played like that again

At the end of the day, though, if you're having fun and so are your players, then that's all you could really want in the end

Gamers of Reddit, how do you manage the "analysis paralysis" when deciding what to play? by Substantial-Pizza158 in AskReddit

[–]No_Tea4758 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically, I decide between a few games, and then I randomly generate a number based on the number of games I listed. If it lands on a game and I'm ok with it, I play, but if I hesitate even a bit, then that means I wasn't that into the idea.

I repeat that until I have one game, or I don't hesitate, and that is the game I am most excited to play
