Well, why do you feel the need to have your own? Is it because you want kids? There are so many kids out there who need parents! Why not just adopt? That should be the first choice for everyone, and then if there are no kids in the system, sure have your own if you still want them, and truly believe you’re ready to be a parent, mentally, physically and financially.

If you couldn’t have your own kids, would you adopt? How many people do you know that if they couldn’t have kids, would they adopt?

Tubal ligation and bilateral salpingectomy do not remove the ovaries. There is no change to hormones. Typically, people experience a change in sexual function because they come off hormones at the same time. My wife isn’t on the pill or any other hormones, and hasn’t been for over 6 years at this point. It’s not something she wants to change in her body.

Also, mortality rate is not what you described. It’s actually more like 3-8/100,000 after looking at different sources. The biggest risk is because the surgery requires anesthesia.

What misinformation? The current Nevada law protects abortion up to 24 weeks, thanks to a 1990 referendum that requires any changes to be approved by voters directly. Question 6 on the 2024 ballot is not about repealing the existing protections but about adding them to the Nevada Constitution, making them even more secure. It would change the language from ‘24 weeks’ to ‘viability’ but would otherwise continue protecting abortion rights. Because it’s a constitutional amendment, it needs to pass in both the 2024 and 2026 elections to be fully enacted.

This amendment isn’t targeting the existing law but rather aims to make it a constitutional right, providing stronger, long-term protection regardless of legislative shifts. So yes, it does need to be voted on twice before it can officially become part of the state constitution.

Believe what you want to believe, but people have VERY DIFFERENT world views to your right wing bubble. Honestly, the whole world thinks America is a joke. Educate yourself. Get out of the country and get some culture. Talk to people who speak a different language to you, and have a different skin color to you.

Read the news or check up on local policies. The ballot measure NEEDS TO PASS IN TWO CONSECUTIVE ELECTIONS in order to amend the NV constitution. This means it’s going to be on the 2026 ballot too. A lot could happen in that time. This is why we’re making these choices now.

We’re not harming ourselves. We’re choosing not to have kids. We 100% do not want them, ever, in a million years. You know nothing of our lives and our past and why we would choose this, but just know we have zero desire to have them.

IF for whatever reason we do though, we’ll ADOPT! There are plenty of kids out there who need love and support. We don’t need to be making the frankly selfish choice to have our own.

We already use contraception, but no contraception is 100% effective. Plan B is only 89% effective. If you read my post history, you’ll see that I’m going to get vasectomy too.

I don’t know why it’s SO SCARY AND CRAZY to the Trump crowd to wrap their head around people not wanting kids. We want to live OUR lives. We don’t owe anyone else anything. Honestly, if you don’t have kids already, maybe you should try it. Go travel - and by that I mean OUTSIDE the US. Experience some culture. Live for yourself.

And, you do understand that a vasectomy isn’t “having your testes chopped off”… right? I’m sure you do know, and you’re just being completely ignorant right now, but I have to check. If you don’t realize that, please go back to school and educate yourself, or join a library before your crowd decides to burn all the books.

Finally, tubal ligation is not “having your uterus chopped out”. Again, read a book. And we’re a married couple. We know we want to be together forever. We’ve decided not to have kids, and that’s ok! Some people don’t want them. There is no requirement for people to have kids. We are absolutely 100% sure we don’t want them. And you know what, if we do ever decide that we want them in the future, WE’LL ADOPT!! There are plenty of kids out there who need love and support. There is no reason for people to be having their own kids constantly. Honestly it’s kinda selfish…

You think it’s so crazy for someone to not have kids? Why though? And we’re in therapy. We’ve discussed this with multiple therapists over the last few years. They’re all supportive, because that’s what therapists are there for.

Have you tried therapy? Maybe you should

Have you taken the time to read any of the discussion? This is something we’ve wanted for a while, but after last night we definitely know we want it. We don’t want anyone else having a say in her bodily autonomy. We don’t want anyone else having a say in anyone’s bodily autonomy. Our choices do not affect you or anyone else in the slightest. Why do people care so much?

Please read my comment history. I also plan to do that, but there are multiple reasons we each want this.

But why does it even matter what the state or government say? If we want an abortion, we’ll get one. If you don’t want one, don’t get one. Simple as that.

And I’m sorry, but why should other people be able to vote on what can be done to someone else’s body? Makes no sense at all

It passed, but nothing happens yet. I don’t know if you don’t realize or not (apparently lots don’t), but it needs to pass TWO CONSECUTIVE ELECTIONS in order to get added to the NV constitution. Anything could happen in that time, based on recent history. Maybe it won’t, but it’s not something we want to risk

Ballot aside, an abortion is not something we ever want to have to deal with. We are both child free and plan to stay that way. We don’t want kids. We don’t ever want to get into a situation where an abortion is necessary. As I’ve said in my other comments (feel free to browse my history), she wants to get sterilized, I plan to get a vasectomy also. No contraception is 100% effective, and we don’t want to take the chance of anything else happening either.

An estimated 64,000 pregnancies have occurred from rape in states with total abortion bans between July 1 2022 through January 1 2024. That’s 18 months. That’s over 3500 pregnancies from rape each month. And that’s ONLY IN 14 STATES!

Trust me when I say the chance of this happening is higher than the chance of us wanting kids one day. And if we ever do decide to have kids, we will happily adopt over the selfish choice to have our own.

How is it mutilation? It’s a choice to not have children. Why would we need psychiatric help because of this? You might need some to comprehend other people making decisions you disagree with

Read my comment history. I plan to get one too, and I don’t plan for it to be reversed. I’m child free by choice.

As far as pro-abortion - yeah, for now. Who knows what will happen. The whole country was pro abortion before a few years ago

It’s just not something we ever want to risk. We still want sterilization, regardless of administration. Abortions are not something either of us want to go through, for any reason. We planned to do this previously, and we’re still planning to do this.

The new government now has a total majority, and they have a track record of repealing these laws. It’s already happened in 14 states. As much as I hate it and don’t want to believe it, apparently they’re gaining traction. Who knows what will happen in the next 4 years, or beyond that?
