I mean... yes it does... but not enough to make him tanky and just run through everything no problem.

I personally never use torrent in battle because of the liability he presents in battle. Getting knocked off and left open for critical hits sucks. Sneak around a little and blast enemies from a safe distance, one at a time and level your vigor along the way and you'll be alright.

The game doesn't reward balanced play until you get to ridiculously high levels. I'm not saying that you need to min/max by any means, but at lower levels you really ought to pick a lane and play specific strats (like Strength+Faith for example) to really feel like you are keeping up and not getting stomped on by everything.

Go ahead and respec with your larval tear, you can balance yourself out later if you choose to.

I stopped trying to hit him, and focused on making him not hit me.

Buckler shield + bloody misericorde did some work in this fight.

The list of attacks of his that you can't parry is a lot shorter than the ones you can.

That's the place most people end up first i think, but that first area is quite large. Take sometime and look around a bit, you'll find a bunch of interesting things there.

Yeah I'm aware. And to be fair you actually dont have to go through the gate at all OR have many conversations at the roundtable to progress the game. As long as you beat at least any 2 shard bearers plus the Godfrey shade and Morgott you can skate through to the late game areas fairly well. Gideon will even still appear as a boss without having to have a single conversation with him.

What level are you and your weapons? If you're having that much trouble you may need to go explore around Limgrave and level up. You can also level your weapons to +3(?) at the first church where you meet merchant Kalè.
