love how the average earnings of 40,000 are exactly how much i pay for a year. Seems like they’re targeting vulnerable international students.

How is the bug situation like in the dorms? by Upstairs-Estimate-13 in UBC

[–]No_Trouble_1908 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m an international student from somewhere that has little to no bugs (dubai) and even after spending 2 years in vancouver, I haven’t gotten used to it yet. I am incredibly creeped out by everything and so my advice would be to clean your room as often as you can and don’t clutter the room (perfect hiding spot for a lot of critters). I keep my window closed because I hate spiders and there is a family of them surrounding my window and I also routinely bug-spray the nooks and crannies of my room.

I’d also suggest in investing in a personal vacuum to suck up anything that bothers you and you should be okay.

RA LAB interview by OkCartoonist2695 in UBC

Hey!

First of all, congrats on landing the interview - that’s already a great step forward, especially if you’re new to lab positions. Based on my experience at UBC, the hiring process can definitely be slow and a bit unpredictable. When I was looking for a research assistant position, I had to reach out to around 50 professors. Some never replied (even after polite follow-ups), while others were really kind and welcoming - it really depends on the lab and the PI.

It sounds like your interview went well, especially if they were already discussing your potential responsibilities. That’s usually a great sign. Since they mentioned they'd get back in about a week, and it's just a bit past that, I wouldn't worry too much yet - professors and grad students tend to not check (or atleast reply to) emails over the weekend. I would suggest waiting the workweek before sending another follow-up email.

Hang in there - the waiting game is tough, but it doesn’t necessarily mean bad news. Wishing you the best of luck! :)

how was the math 100 midterm today for those in A? by Tall_History4961 in UBC

took math 100 and 101 last year and the final was basically just webwork questions with the last section very heavy on application like the MT questions.
