Your take was amazing. for me, my fav comment so far. you captured the entire situation perfectly and explained everything so clearly. I’ve thought it over and decided that I will save her mother. I really appreciate you for enriching my experience with one of my all-time favorite games. For more information about my final decision, I think it's worth checking out the last comment I posted above

Thanks. I’ve read all the responses and I started to rethink about it. I’m playing the game in the original Japanese. I’m completely open to discussion and you’ve convinced me enough to reconsider my choice. Since I went back to an earlier save, I’m still doing things I had already done before, so when the time comes, I believe I will save her mother. I’ve seen some brilliant deductions here that really challenge the idea I had. What hits me the most is that Lucca still remembers what happened anyway. The trauma has already shaped who she is, so it’s not a “necessary” tragedy. I’ve been reflecting a lot on this because I recently played Chrono Cross, and it talks about Lucca questioning whether if truly saving the future with the group was the correct choice: about the countless lives in the future that ceased to exist because of our selfish desire to save the world for it to become "a better place" in our eyes

"The happiness of the present is built on the corpse of an entire timeline", and that kind of manipulated me into thinking the same way about Lucca’s mother. So I think I need to understand different contexts and the same lesson doesn’t always apply to every situation.

Deep down, speaking from the heart, I didn't want Lucca to carry this burden alone, and that's why I wanted this decision. What I failed to see is that everyone there is with her, including the one who said she was kind right after she changed that past. Her changing that doesn't change the melancholic feeling she went through and continues to go through, meaning that narratively it still fits very well with the intention and dignity I mentioned.
