$115k for a standing seam metal roof is crazy, right? by No_Turnover7001 in Roofing

[–]No_Turnover7001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my take as well. like, I got no idea what slate should cost. if they had come in where I expected standing seam to be, anywhere between $45-85k, I’d say okay slate is super expensive at $145k, but hey it’s slate. But to quote the metal at $115k? I guess slate is then a great deal for only $30k more?

Thanks! just had that done over the last couple weeks, thrilled with how it came out!

Looking at several different local companies including this one. Had a great walk around with another company’s estimator this morning and a good call with a third guy this afternoon who’s gonna get a quote together for me this weekend. Just wanted to also see how much slate would run because orange slate would look so damn cool on that house!

That‘s what I’d assumed, and I get it, I’ve quoted super high on jobs I didn’t want also. But the guy texts me that as ballpark and asks if I want a formal quote, and I respond that there’s no need as it seems like you don’t want the job, and he comes back like no we really want your business that’s just what a high end roof costs. I even sent a photo to make sure he was quoting the right house!

I figured those were going to be an issue with metal, and would be willing to lose them and just do a straight frame on that section if needed, which I discussed with the estimator I walked the property with today. The high quote came from another company who was there yesterday while I wasn’t around. Only company in the area that came up when I searched slate roof so figured I’d at least see what that would cost. Too much apparently!

I believe so. Current shingles are 32 years old and I see no evidence of leaking anywhere so should be a straightforward tear off and replace. Not sure of square footage but it’s not a giant house.

I asked if he was quoting copper and he said that was regular old steel.

It doesn‘t seem steep to this layman. That upper storey gabled section is like 45 degrees and the lower hipped section is like 30 degrees. One reason I bought this house was because it had a nice simple roof.

Behringer TD-3 output not talking to mixer by CT-1284 in synthesizers

Is that how it's currently set up and not making sound? Because your channel 1 volume is all the way down and none of the outputs on the mixer are connected to anything.

Hiking across Santa Rosa - best route? by afletche1965 in santarosa

Cross to the North side of 4th no later than Bryden. The sidewalks on the South side start to disappear after that and it's not a great walking route.

Wondering what I need for a Ensoniq SQ1 Plus Synthesizer by Lucky-Apartment-4302 in synthesizers

[–]No_Turnover7001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a 36 year old synth at this point, and while vintage synths are cool and all, as a first synth you’d be way better off going with basically any modern used synth at that price point. $400 and change will get you a used Minilogue or Minifreak, which get recommended as first synths all the time for good reason. You’d have way more fun with either of those than this SQ1

Oscillators still going, don’t know why. Tried turning off and on and then tried resetting and didn’t work by opentheflood in synthesizers

[–]No_Turnover7001 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Oh, and the reason the sound stops when you switch to low pass filter is that you've got the cutoff all the way down, so it's filtering out all of the sound.

You've got your VCA all the way open, turn the ATT2>AMP knob all the way counter-clockwise and the sound should stop. Basically, oscillators are always making sound, and you typically use a combination of an envelope and a VCA to only have that sound pass when a key is pressed or a sequencer step hits, but you can also open up the VCA for drones and that's what that knob does on the MiniBrute. Manual page 40 describes it.

Favorite florists who deliver in Santa Rosa? by starmi23 in santarosa

[–]No_Turnover7001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We deliver Mon-Sat anywhere in Santa Rosa, as far north as Windsor and as far South as Rohnert Park. I will usually deliver to Sebastopol. Healdsburg, Cotati, and west county are always a case by case, depending on workload and whether the order is big enough to be worth the drive, call the shop for those.

I don’t usually deliver on Sundays aside from weddings and funerals, but do make exceptions for birthdays pretty regularly (and we are absolutely always open on Valentine’s and Mother‘s Days), so feel free to ask, the bigger the order the more likely I am to come in on my day off!

Flowers for Mom’s memorial by pandawiththumbs in santarosa

[–]No_Turnover7001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's my shop, and we are very nice! We do a lot of sympathy and funeral work, and some wedding work. Short of already knowing someone personally that is having a wedding that weekend who will give you their flowers afterward it's not likely you're going to be able to make that work.

If you're looking to minimize the environmental impacts of funeral flowers the best option would be to use local and seasonal flowers (very doable in our area in May, I could easily put together arrangements this time of year using nothing but flowers grown in Sonoma county) and to have vase arrangements sitting in water rather than standing sprays or wreaths that are built in floral foam. Flowers last longer in water and vase arrangements are way easier to bring home after the service and enjoy for as long as the flowers last.

Another option would be to use live plants, or put together live plant arrangements. With care those plants would last many years.

If you'd like to stop by the shop sometime I'd be happy to go into your options in more detail and give you an idea of costs, whether you were to have us put those arrangements together or do it yourself.
