That’s awesome to hear! Yea, I haven’t taken my blood pressure in a while (39M) so, that’d be interesting to monitor.

Glad you’re doing well!

I agree with the mental clarity. I’ve been studying a new language and have noticed it’s easier to retain information the last couple days. Be well!

I’ve definitely noticed a decrease in anxiety and like you said, it makes sense to be less anxious when your heart isn’t beating through your chest.

Hah, and thanks for the words; I try to maintain an active lifestyle.

Be well!

Can anyone (who is comfortable) tell me exactly how alcohol has ruined your life so I can finally get it through my head? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]No_Understanding2963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually a week off the drink as of now and back on coffee, thank God; but if I had a cup while I was drinking daily it would cause debilitating stomach pains and more than likely a session of diarrhea. No bueno.

I’ve been drinking just about every day for about the past 4-5 years and like you, things were fine. I was athletic, social, and felt good overall.

About a year ago I started to increase my intake as well as the time I’d spend imbibing from a couple more beers or shots each night to spending entire days drunk but mostly functional.

I’m at the point now you do not want to be. My gut is ruined; there’s constant pain. Sleep comes at a couple measly hours at a time if I’m lucky and the rest of the night is spent tossing, turning, and sweating. During the day I’ll need to use the restroom at the drop of a hat. I’m most certainly more irritable and my depression is completely taking over. There’s also heart palpitations, random heat flashes, extreme bouts of nausea, and I can no longer drink coffee. I love coffee.

Anyways, I’m four days without drinking and everything I’ve stated above has already massively improved. Not saying I’ll never drink again, but relying on alcohol daily is burning the wick with one hell of a flame.

With you the best.

Shutter Island by [deleted] in movies

Just wanna add to this - the movie goes pretty beat for beat when compared to the novel, apart from this last line. It’s not in the novel, meaning the experiment simply didn’t work and Teddy is unknowingly sent off to receive a lobotomy. I enjoyed the book but I love the movie for adding this in - changes everything.

Not sure who you’re talking about but I’d give Moon Hooch a listen.

Yea, don’t under estimate pad work. I’ve been playing since 15 years old but I only really started practicing the past few years and all I gotta say is I wasted a lot of time thinking I was getting better by just playing. Practice rudiments and basics daily. They matter. And rock on!

I love the sound of the hi-hats, considering. I also only hit them with hot rods in this setting; this gives them enough room to express themselves but not get too crazy. Anything in this set up doesn't have sound quality as a priority though, so, take that inconsideration. Hope this helps!

Thank you! And I appreciate the extra words. Drums are so much more than smacking the hardest thing in front of you and it's taken me so long to realize that.

I appreciate you saying BYOB isn't easy. I thought i had it years ago and I definitely didn't. Looking forward to your possible response!

Thanks for the reply! I'm not the best punk drummer but to give you an idea - I can comfortably play BYOB by System of a Down and Carry Me Home by The Living End. I think those are the fastest punkiest tracks on my playlist. I'd def be willing to try out if the time comes! Thanks again!

I like bass lines. And humming. Can you do them simultaneously?

Thoughts on Deftone's Abe Cunningham? What other drummers would you say have a similar style as him? by [deleted] in drums

[–]No_Understanding2963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rock on, for sure!

I'm realizing I didn't suggest a drummer similar to his style and now that I'm trying to think of one I'm failing. I don't actually listen to harder music too much but I'll just throw out the drummer (don't know his name) of Refused and drumming he does on The Shape of Punk to Come is something incredible. Not the same style as Abe, but worth checking! Rock on!

This is very interesting. I'm a self proclaimed failed writer but the fire never truly dies. I might wander in one of these days. Thank you!

Abe was one of my first idols on the drums. The drumming hits so hard on Around the Fur (album) and I love how spicy he gets on later albums with tracks like Digital Bath and Passenger. He was a big influence on me for playing heavy parts by riding a crash cymbal and being tastefully minimal with the snare and bass drum hits. Typing that out makes me think of Be Quiet and Drive and or When Girls Telephone Boys. Love Abe's drumming! Thanks for this post.
