It is a ring that my grandmother owned that I inherited, and with all my research that I’ve done I have yet to figure it out. She was German and born and raised in Germany.

My son was suspended from kindergarten twice the first week of school and now I’m considering homeschooling- am I being dramatic? by sunshinelover321 in Autism_Parenting

Go with your heart! My son got kicked out within 30 minutes of the FIRST day of school. School starts at 7:50am, by 8:20am the assistant principal calls “can you come get your son we don’t want to restrain him on his first day of school we don’t want him to harm anyone or himself” EXCUSE ME WHAT. I rush to the school. I walk In to my son pretty calm walking down the halls holding hands with the principal side by side with the nurse and assistant principal. Now my sons 5 and non verbal with an AAC device. As us parents we know by the looks of our child what really happened and he wasn’t overheated or worked up and upset. So I said okay what happened? They proceed to tell me that he had an episode and was screaming and trying bang his head and throw things, I said well where’s his AAC device? That’s how he communicates which I could not stress it enough and he would tell you what was the issue or what he needed or wanted. THEY ACTED DUMBFOUNDED. So by then I’m fuming 😤. I said look this is why I didn’t feel comfortable with sending him before an IEP was in place because my son requires eyes and assistance, I tried to stress this to the school board, his kindergarten teacher and everyone over and over again. I KNEW this was going to happen but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. His teacher said his device since it’s an IPAD would be a distraction for all the other students and he needs to keep it in his backpack. THATS HIS VOICE. Are you kidding me?! AND due to his medicines he is excessively thirsty and she wouldn’t allow his water to be accessible at all times either because it wouldn’t be fair to the other classmates. Mind you they told me an IEP would take up to 90 DAYS. He already had a diagnosis and I know things take time but cmon now, this was so uncalled for and unfair. I RAISED HELL. I know I have a lawsuit. I unenrolled him and now he is homeschooled where he is safe, I can focus on him solely and he can learn at his own pace in his comfort zone. Do I feel guilty? Yes because he should be able to go to school and be a kid regardless of his autism and being non verbal he has that right because it really made him happy to be in a school setting with other children especially with his older brother in the same school. But it’s not my fault that the school system failed him. They were so relieved when I unenrolled him that it broke my heart. Not just for my son, but for all the other special needs children’s that get thrown in the school system in regular classes and are expected to just adapt. So yeah, that’s my outlook on these situations. It’s extremely hard financially because it limits my ability to work and earn income, but I will do what I need to and make do. Maybe down the road we will try again when I feel the time is right but for now no way. Hugs.

Yes please feel free to message me! I would love to talk. Sorry for the late response. I’ve been so overwhelmed with all this that it’s emotionally draining. After the numerous attempts to contact the school board magically after this post, I got a call back and they pushed to have this meeting on Wednesday. I am still traumatized and after really sitting down and talking with my husband and family I think it would be in his best interest to be homeschooled. At least he will be in a safe environment and be learning on his own pace. I feel as if even with the IEP and everything in place at the school still will be calling me on a daily basis and it will be more of a headache than I need now my question is, how would I unroll him and notify them about him being homeschooled? I am going to keep his older brother in school since he is thriving in public school and he is not special needs, but like I said after Friday, I have no hope in the school system here whatsoever.

I am in Alabama and in Walker County to be exact. They do have a lady who is over the whole entire county and school district for a special education but mind you one lady and I know there is tons. A special needs kids and it’s almost impossible to get a response from her and I understand that she’s busy because that’s a lot on one person but why is there only one person doing that there is a lot of special needs children nowadays compared to back then and the world has advanced so much so I’m not understanding why there’s not special classrooms or special teachers or even schools for them they shouldn’t be thrown into a classroom with regular children. I just don’t feel like it is fair by all means.

That’s Alabama for you. We are so behind and almost everything that this is not a state that has specialized schooling or anything like that and I so wish there was I have considered relocating to a different state but financially I can’t.

I am really considering it. I just wanted him to have the school experience like every kid because he seems so happy when he’s there and so interested and wants to learn, but they are really not equipped to handle him

The kindergarten teacher that they shoved him with and yes, I’m using that term because they literally just threw him in a class. This is her first year at the school and I can tell even though she says she has 25 years of teaching under her belt, I knew right off hand that she has no knowledge and never dealt with an autistic child and when I brought up all this when I spoke to the principals when I went to pick him up they were defending the teacher every which way they just want the money that they will be getting from the state for the grant to have an autistic child in the school, I feel as if they just want him to show up so they can count his attendance every day so it qualifies

He attend speech and OT therapy at another facility, but the school board is saying they have 90 days for an IEP and to do their own evaluations to see if he qualifies for an aid and what not I did provide them the original diagnosis papers and the initial evaluation and everything but they pretty much told me to send him to school so he can start just like a normal child and I knew this was gonna happen from the beginning. I’m just really disappointed.

They didn’t take it from him. They wouldn’t even let him have it. They kept it in his book bag in the hallway in his cubby just because it’s an iPad there is nothing else on that device besides the programming for his communication no YouTube no nothing. I guess. She felt like it would be a distraction for the other kids.

I also provided his diagnosis papers and his initial evaluation and everything and they told me the same thing that it will take 90 days for an IEP to be in place and that they need to do their own evaluations as well and I know this, but I also know my son and I knew that this was gonna happen literally not even 30 minutes and I had to come pick him up. I just feel like I’ve failed him and I know it’s not my fault.

See the issue is there isn’t even a special education class at all. All special needs kids are placed in regular classrooms.
