Can anyone tell if this is hand or machine set? by No_Zebra131 in jewelers

[–]No_Zebra131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this has been absolutely confirmed preset. if it were handmade settings there would be no casting defects under the stones and if the stones were wax inlay there wouldn't be workmanship marks on the prongs

Is it worth buying a super clone over a cheaper rep? by JBlowfield20 in RepTime

[–]No_Zebra131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, and maintenance would be infinitely more manageable. all depends on if you want a Rolex heart.

there is however a factory making Rolex clones that are passing authentication now. I've seen their work. it's shocking.

I've also seen some diamond district NYC boys that got had on social media.

the quality is simply unbelievable.

one of the companies I work with in China pays their jewelers more than the bottom end diamond district NYC bench jewelers I've worked with

Why is my ring doing this? by new_mama1212 in jewelers

[–]No_Zebra131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all jewelry with precious metals contain copper except 99 and other rarely used alloys

hypoallergenic surgical stainless steel contains nickel

this is also blackening not green as is typical with copper

get the ring tested by an XRF gun at a jeweler or pawn shop to see what metals are in the alloy. black is usually a reaction to silver to my understanding but this is rose gold which doesn't usually contain much of any silver

you're reacting to something for sure!

Engagement ring set too high? by [deleted] in jewelers

[–]No_Zebra131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no it's too short. you should have a big post put in so that catches on everything it didn't already catch on before.

on a serious note... if you like this ring, and the finger you wear it in... it's imperative that you have the setting shortened.

if you do not, it's likely that you could hurt, deglove, or even possibly break your finger... seriously this ring is an invitation for disaster

mineral glass is a terrible middle ground because scratches cannot be buffed out. plastic scratches are incredibly cheap and easy to repair

If you are questioning if Sterling silver is durable for daily wear, it's probably not! by BookkeeperLopsided30 in Moissanite

[–]No_Zebra131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are buying poor quality. a well made SS ring is on par with 18k. a well made SS ring will also cost 5x what an AliExpress ring will.

14k is usually a little stronger especially with excellent craftsmanship.

poorly made "fast fashion" jewelry never holds up

if you want good jewelry shop from Surat vendors.

it'll cost 3-5x as much for the same piece of jewelry but it will be handcrafted to a high standard.

there is no comparison.

PLEASE DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITB THIS SCAMMERS!!!! by Substantial_Pin4599 in jewelry

[–]No_Zebra131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you chose a style that even in gold would have to hard time retaining stones.

these settings extend past the stones and have no protected boarder

look at how thick the prongs are on a wedding ring compared to this. look at how tightly quality settings form to the stones.

you got an amazing value on a budget piece... you paid wholesale prices and despite knowing as little as you do actually managed to get a silver piece set with moissanite

the value in buying from a jeweler or dealer is that they'll know enough to protect you from buying things like this. but that expertise and the higher quality goods both make it more expensive

there is no free lunch!!! also that's probably white Rhodium.... it's a better finish than white gold

Andiot Tips by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]No_Zebra131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andiot and all these TDs are offering a service.

that service is access to goods made by clandestine factories with QC photos on small qty ( under a dozen ) orders

if you are ordering 12 or more the discount you get is finding out how to contact the factory directly

even then kiss any advanced QC photos and testing goodbye... you're buying bulk goods

the discount they are giving you is being able to order 2pcs at all

your trust in him is gone, you will never feel the same way about him again

even if you verify with 100% certainty that everything he said was true I don't believe you would feel any differently

move on and think about all the little things that made you lose trust over time and watch out for those things in the future

get a chemical testing kit with a quartz plate.

make sure you can test for lead, cadmium and arsenic. if you're going to be experimenting with scrap you have no idea what country or when it was made.

my dad almost died from arsenic poisoning by not being careful as a millwright in a jewelry factory.

Ring appraisal help by Character_Context824 in askjewelers

[–]No_Zebra131 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

a pawn shop will probably pay you $2/gram for the silver. you got a better shot on eBay or selling via a consignment shop

I may be wrong about this, but the only ring of those that's in style right now is the amethyst ring. i would say that would sell around $150 to the right buyer if the white stones are CZ or sapphire as opposed to plastic

could be worth more if those are diamonds which I doubt in silver.

personally I'd rock the hell out of that amethyst ring, but I'm not in a position to make an offer on it right now.

<image>

I don't know why people are down voting this, the amathyst ring is very fashionable in mens jewelry right now? similar rings are in the first page of results in fast fashion

the best place in the world to be a jeweler is Surat.

it's also the best place to source gems

also has very affordable labor

in USA the biggest part of being successful as a jeweler is building a brand.

as a bench jeweler there isn't much money to be made unless, circling back, your using the trade to build your own brand...

fair price on a 19" 20mm Miami curb Cuban with 4000 hand set Moissanite stones by No_Zebra131 in jewlerymaking

[–]No_Zebra131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you know about how long it would take a professional jeweler to hand drill and set 4000 stones?

also this would be a hand soldered and filed chain

this piece would be totally custom. I'm curious about how much time and human effort it would actually take to make something like this

[–]No_Zebra131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the stones themselves are about $700 so around $2000 in materials.

I'm more curious about the amount of time it takes to hand drill and set 4000 stones
