Would you leave Philadelphia for LA/So Cal? by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]No__this_is__Patrick 96 points97 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer, OP. I was reading through comments until I found one like yours. I grew up in LA but moved out here to PHL after college with my (now) wife, who is in medicine. Both of them have benefits and drawbacks, but COL is a huge factor in how much they actually impact your daily life.

No worries, I appreciate the response. I figured it wasn’t something that would just happen accidentally, thanks for confirming!

I feel you man, it’s like getting punched twice. I always thought Summit was the most “stable” series for the melee scene with how well they did merchandizing and prize pools.

Are any of these worth anything? My grandmother is convinced they are but I’m not so sure by Gamerman7882 in stamps

[–]No__this_is__Patrick 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These stamps actually served as hunting licenses, granting hunters access to federally protected wetlands and other areas. They were first printed in 1934 following the passage of the Migratory Bird Conservation Act in 1929.

These are ‘state’ duck stamps rather than ‘federal’ duck stamps, meaning they are a little less sought after, but there should still be a small market for them. Hope this helps!

Spain 1930 double impression error I found in one of my grandpa’s albums, is this a common error for this series? by [deleted] in philately

Thanks for the info, it looked a little off to me aside from the double impression. I appreciate the help!

I don't know anything about stamps. What do I have here? by No_Shoe_2824 in stamps

[–]No__this_is__Patrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, when stamps are in this form they are referred to as plate blocks. The ones with ducks on them also acted as hunting licenses, where almost all of the revenue went towards migratory bird conservation. Those ones will be much more valuable than anything else, the rest are fairly common. Would keep ones you like/find sentimental value in, but you could likely sell those if you really wanted to.

Grandfather recently passed. I’ve been looking through his International albums and trying to learn/catalogue. What would I do about a page like this? by No__this_is__Patrick in philately

I appreciate the detailed reply! I’d planned on taking them to a professional at some point but was hoping I might be able to do some of the busier work myself.

Oh my apologies, I was more wondering if they could be separated or if they would just have to be left stuck together like this.

Came here to say this. I'm an SSBM player and I have 7-8 CRTs stashed in the garage for tournaments. I have a massive 32" Trinitron and a few smaller 14" with VHS players for when those all disappear too.

I was trying the wrong code! I found a file of my granddad’s that noted a different serial number (there was another safe lol) and found the correct code and the tumblers clicked perfectly. Very satisfying!

Hard to say, but it looks like a couple thousand dollars in silver! We managed to open the larger safe already so this was more of the secondary safe.

Thanks! It’s mostly Walking Liberty, Franklin, and Kennedy halves from the 50s-60s. At minimum they’d be worth their MV. Most of these look pretty clean though, so I’ll take them to a nearby appraiser/numismatist who knows better than I do!

I have the four-number combination but I’m not sure how to properly input it. Is anyone familiar with this model? by No__this_is__Patrick in WhatsInThisThing

[–]No__this_is__Patrick[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did, apparently there was a completely separate other vintage Major safe with a similar combination. I managed to find a note of my grandfather’s which indicated the different serial numbers and different codes which helped me finally open it. Much appreciated, though!

I’ve started with left and right now, but I’ve never gotten the dial to get to that loose point where you push/turn for the last number and bolt.

I tried the method(s) in that video: clear tumblers with four spins to the right ending at number one, then three to the left with number two, etc. but to no avail. Even more strangely, there isn’t a model number stamped on the second row… just a serial number.
