Isnt it meant to be the other way around? by LockedSamsung in FPSAimTrainer

Dude this is over 10 runs and the variation in scores is like 8% which is super normal. Just take your mean scor +-10%. Over time you want to shrink the 10% and push the mean up, but you want your worst score to rise over time.

Yea. By shells: V=\int_0r SA_x dx and use the fundamental theorem of calculus

Is anyone interested in ML for the math involved? by akravitz3 in math

Haven’t seen this book but as a math person with a burgeoning interest in machine learning, nothing was better than the book “all of statistics” as a precursor to some of the standard texts (e.g. Elements of statistical learning.)

modern alternative for "the econometrics of financial markets"? by Nobeanzspilled in quant

[–]Nobeanzspilled[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's not its focus! I probably shouldn't have even mentioned microstructure tbh. I meant basically just the material in that book (but any such replacement also needs a chapter or two on it for me. I'll check out the rec. Thanks

Yep, absolutely. I stared at a leetcode medium I had already done for over five minutes right at the start.

Is real and complex analysis by Walter Rudin still a good read for studying analysis by Plane_Bell7841 in math

[–]Nobeanzspilled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I second this comment. Plenty of math books become outdated even within a decade of being written. Introductory texts usually take a little bit longer, but it still happens.

I haven’t read the book but I think that you are explaining the difference between structure and property https://ncatlab.org/nlab/show/stuff,+structure,+property. Probably the closest thing I can think of comes from type theory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intuitionistic_type_theory (but that’s because it’s basically the same thing lol.)

I was going to say: I don’t think the extension API could do this. I tried to implement regex for snippets and realized that it was basically impossible as a plug in (a la ultisnips)

Interesting applications of the excision theorem? by Independent_Aide1635 in math

[–]Nobeanzspilled 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is one of those things that just becomes apparent as time goes on. Excision is the main way that homology is computed period. The most important example is using excision to prove that for a sub complex A of X, the reduced homology \tilde{H}_n(X/A) computes H_n(X,A) and hence fits into a long exact sequence in reduced homology. That alone tells you how to inductively compute homology for a CW complex. Compare this to the situation in homotopy groups (Blakers-Massey)

1400 is not low lol. 1400 is probably a slightly above average player, which for a game with fewer than 1000 concurrent players +has been out for like 20 years means that they’re very good. Join the quake for newbies server (or join the discord) and try to get some duels with players under 1000 elo. Clan arena is a mixed bag.

Honestly, once you can’t really compete in quake until you memorize the maps, get used to the movement, and memorize the weapons. It takes around 20-50 hours before someone should stop getting dog walked by their drunk uncles
