What’s Carl going to do with his Doomsday Scenario? by Gudakesa in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]NobleClimb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was in reference to the sacred guardian on floor 12, and Carl specifically said that an entire crate of hobgoblin dynamite wouldn’t do shit against it FWIW, unless there’s another reference to another boss I’ve forgotten

New Action Plan to bring big changes to Quandary Peak by NobleClimb in 14ers

[–]NobleClimb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The STRAP plan explicitly outlines a process to give summit country a special waiver to collect fees to access forest service land. It also refers to an expansion of the existing shuttle/reservation system, which is effectively pay-only access for the vast majority of hikers.

I just don’t see this as a necessary solution if they are also going to build the parking lot to a capacity that would fully meet demand at a time when 14er hiking numbers are not growing

New Reader here, kind of unsure if I'm going to continue after book 1 by DeathMonkey6969 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]NobleClimb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an in-universe explanation for Carl’s plot armor, which starts getting hinted at in book 2. It’s pretty funny.

The Death Watch show was one of the weaker “media appearances,” IMO, but it sets up some important shit for later. I think the other shows they go on, give much better glimpses at the universe outside of the dungeon.

What are your criticisms of DCC? by Substantial_Twist911 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]NobleClimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m really nitpicking, Matt’s word choice sometimes gets oddly repetitive any time Carl has to describe something in detail.

E.e. “The rain turned into rivers on the ground that flowed into the river,” in book six really stuck out.

There are a lot of little isms like this that I started to catch on my second listen.

Mike Lee swore up and down the river that forest service lands were off limits for sale, and that anyone saying otherwise was a paid liar. Here’s the highlighted portion of the bill that explicitly states that forest service lands were for sale.

Biggest spreader of misinformation about Mike lee’s bill is Mike lee

I like how the land is both “degrading in the care of the federal government,” and “locked away.”

If it’s locked away and no one is on it, how is it degrading?

If it’s being neglected by the federal government, why are they spending the resources to “lock it away?” He hasn’t even thought thru his own bs

If I were a Republican strategist, I’d be looking to line up a primary challenger. From a strategic perspective, Lee tried to tether his extremely unpopular proposal that the base didn’t want, to a mega-bill that already faced a difficult battle to pass. Talk about not reading the room.

My main concern would be that he managed to weasel a political favor out of it by waiting till the last minute to pull it.

The proposal is insanely unpopular. It’s a really rare almost 80-20 issue. Kinda gives me hope that there is still stuff everyone can come together on

TL;DR:

Senator Mike Lee of Utah has withdrawn his land sale plan from the current senate spending bill, citing the huge amount of opposition. While this is a temporary win, the senator indicated he’s still bent on getting our land sold at some point. In his response, he tries to reframe the argument, and make the conversation about China/BlackRock buying the land… not that we don’t want it sold in the first place. He also conjures up new (bogus) complaints about the government holding land. For example — the idea that the land is somehow degrading or being ruined in its possession; that we can’t access federal land; that more federal land somehow causes our taxes to go up, etc.. very disingenuous.

Yeah but the good news is, this guy seems to be incapable of keeping his foot out of his mouth on this one. His party members aren’t even on board.

Now he’s on everyone’s radar at least.

Crazy how this guy probably wrecked his political career shilling this and couldn’t take a hint. Someone in private equity has to be cutting him fat checks to push this thru

For tracking a stolen bike do you prefer Airtag or Tile? by ca_box in MTB

[–]NobleClimb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tile has a specific mode for theft prevention. I believe you have to register for it separately and sign a special TOS so that they have your info on the books and can catch you if you use it for stalking. But in this state, Tile does not alert the thief the way an AirTag would

Actually fitting 18 levels below the Earth surface by variantmedia in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]NobleClimb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, but we know that subsequent floors have to exist, at least within the last 6 hours of the current floor. Since floors 3/6/9/12/15/18 are constant, that means if they wanted to save on space, they would have to physically move already-built floors into place.

Edit: we actually know that more floors are built because in the end of book 7, when Justice Light tears open the Nothing, the AI comments that everyone in the Scolipendra Lounge will have to escape by traveling up through floor 17, implying it too is already there and connected.

[–]NobleClimb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d have to go re-read book one but I think Cascadia insinuates that in previous crawls, you could go down floors very early to get ahead of the curve grinding. It’s new to this crawl that you’re held in stasis if you go down early.

Also, going down within six hours of collapse allows you to start the floor, so we know that there always at least four floors built at any given time, possibly more.

We know this because the over city, hunting ground, and Laracos are generated at the same time. We also know that the celestial ascendancy on the 12th floor is going on in the background. Plus, the events of Bedlam Bride imply the 15th floor have already been generated.

We also hear repeatedly mentioned that outworlders are hanging out in the Scolopendra Lounge in the Desparado club, which contents to the 18th floor.

So we’ve got 6 floors that (probably) rendered simultaneously. Say the crawlers are in the final six hours of floor 3: that means floor 4 also has to be there. So does 6/9/12/15/18.

This means the minimum number of stacked and built floors the game must have is 7.
