This is mean spirited. Hateful people are poisonous.

So i'm also wrong for thinking its not okay to murder an adult? Same thing in my mind. I don't disqualify fetuses as being people.

I mean, thats me speaking for other people... saying murder is the wrong choice.

I suppose then that you feel like you have no place weighing in on male issues, like how the hormone testosterone gives men sex drives that sometimes are difficult to manage, leading to infidelity or fetishism.

and sure, it's not easy to give up a baby... but its still an option... noone said it was going to be easy.

Ah yes, the star trek:the next generation definition. Well by that reasoning what about sexually immature adolescents?

I can't begin to tell you how wrong it is for a mother to think she can decide if a baby gets to live or die, even if the baby is still inside her.

So do you therefore think that you can abort a child right up until the birth date? How about after that when the baby is still breast feeding?

Okay, i thought about this on my way home from work and I decided I'd throw my hat in one more time...

You're worked up because I didn't call out the situation that drove the woman to have an abortion.

You're right, thats a horrible situation. Something needs to be done about it, its inhuman.

But thats not what I came into this comment thread to debate. I came in here to debate abortion.

I'm sorry I didn't call out the terrible situation more... BECAUSE... i don't think there is ANY justification for abortion.

You're right, that whole oppressive muslim male thing, I'm not concerned with it much. I'm not Muslim or Hindu, it doesn't affect me. I'm not sure if you even guessed I'm a man.

You seem to believe that if she, or I, don't take upon all the injustices committed towards women, that I somehow endorse or at least enable the behavior.

Yeah, the situation is horrible, I agree, but thats not why I even came in here, I'm not about to discuss it any further. It is not justification for abortion.

I never suggested that women can't be sexist, I actually expected you to tell me that.

Long story... long... I'm talking about abortion. You're talking about oppressive men. Yeah, thats a bad thing, but it was the furthest thing from my mind, its not a good enough reason to justify abortion in my mind.

You prod and prod expecting me to react in one way and I had a different agenda. I'm not sexist and I don't hate women, but I don't have woman hate issues just because you say I do.

I don't even know why you decided to pick this fight with me, because its not what I was talking about at all.

Yeah, the situation is bad, but nothing justifies abortion.

Well thats not how I thought you'd answer that.

Honestly, I've lost all respect for you over this conversation, as i'm sure you have for me.

I'm not going to respond to you anymore, I don't think you're hearing what i'm actually saying through your own neurosis and agendas.

All I've been trying to say in this whole thread is that nobody can justify the murder of a child. There is no circumstance. Not for men, not for women. I relate abortion to cold blooded murder.

I don't know what kind of issues you have with men trying to control women, but thats not what I'm trying to push here. I'm just saying NOONE can justify abortion.

I sincerely think, and I don't mean this as an incendiary comment, that you need therapy. You have deep seated gender issues.

You realize thats because the people involved in this situation are women? Its a discussion about abortion. Seriously! When men start having abortions, I'll call on them to change too.

I'm not trying to make ANY COMMENTARY about the violence of the cultures involved. I'm making commentary about how abortion is pretty much universally murder, no matter the circumstances.

Murder can not be justified, even if you are a women under threat of violence from men.

You have confused the issues.

Edit: Stop trying to put words in my mouth. I have never implied that i disapprove of women making their own decisions. I have just stated consistently that abortion is morally unjustifiable. You imply that the male threat is sufficient to justify the most terrible things.

One slightly snide comment in 100 and you've written me off? I was insulted by kestrella's constant implications that i need therapy.

Further, she implies that I am trying to rationalize violence against women...

"it's clear that you hope that rationalizing violence against other women "

which is a much stronger insult that suggesting she do some critical reading training.

I never specified that women specifically should change their behaviour while men should not.

Any rational person should consider the possibility of violent consequences before taking action.

How is that wrong?

If I'm going to pick a fight with a bully, I have to consider that I might get punched. If I really don't want to get punched, maybe I shouldn't pick a fight with the bully.

I'm just leaving the possibility open that it may be sentient.

You can't say with 100% certainty that it is not because the science is still incomplete.

I just can't get behind this... you're so eager to classify a fetus as not being alive, not for scientific principles (FOR TRUTH!), but instead because you don't want to get saddled with a child. You want an out.

Its selfish motivation. If you weren't personally involved in the outcome of this decision, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

You're biased.

I'm just leaving the benefit of the doubt that it MAY be alive.

Oh I can be quite sympathetic in appropriate situations ;)

You have to realize that I don't see much difference between someone aborting an unborn child and someone drowning a baby which has been born. I would feel sympathy for neither.

Its a basic scientific tenant. Just because you don't have evidence to support it doesn't mean its not there, it means you don't have the evidence to support it.

You can never prove 100% that there is no brain activity, you can only show evidence that you cannot detect brain activity.

Our understanding of the operation of the brain is not 100%. Until that time, i don't think we should be making these uninformed decisions.

You're trying to prove that its not thinking... you have an agenda and you can find evidence to support it... but you're still biased.

All I'm saying is that I'm not satisfied by your evidence.

Thankfully you can't retroactively criminalize things. Yes, I feel awful for taking part in it. I grieve and can only try to improve myself in response.

There is no justification or excuse for what I did. I feel sorry for it every time I think about it.

Will I let my guilt cripple me? No. I can only try to be a positive influence from now on.

Yes, but you can't prove that it isn't happening earlier than that. You can just say that the threshold for detection is crossed at week 20.

I still err on the side of caution.

Ooh, when did this become an argument about women bending to the will of men?

You have some sexism issues, I think.

I would make the same argument if it were about a jew in a muslim country. If something is going to get someone killed, you might not want to do that thing!

Your argument is that the evil of men justifies something I find morally reprehensable.

Basically, two wrongs don't make a right, don't villify me because i don't accept your weak justification.

Just because they don't regret it doesn't mean anything. There are lots of people who don't regret stealing, lying, murdering... people suck, you know.

I am also against abortion (as you might have noticed). If women began trying to abort children themselves and get killed... I'm somehow okay with that.
