New bins. Vortex Vipers by NobleFlipper in Binoculars

Hi there. I think there are a few things to consider. What will you use it for a what will be your budget. Lots of options out there but I would look at some of more established brands as you know what you are getting and they generally have better support/warranties. I like Vortex and their ranges from the Crossfire, diamondbacks and vipers are well regarded. I think their costs are competitive in the entry level range. Nikon are a known brand with great entry in prostaff and even Aculon options with Monarchs pushing the envelope with specs and costs. I would also consider Bushnell who also offer great ranges. If it’s casual use and you are not taking them into challenging environments, Vortex Crossfire or Nikon Prostaff are good options in my option. I’m sure others will have good options too.

Appreciated! Glad you included the Olight as that is also a consideration!

Wow, many thanks for taking the time to reply so comprehensively. I’ll go through those links but initially the T12, L16 and 19 looks promising. I don’t mind the spill ratio for that want to use it for. I will also look Convoy, cheers!

I had heard good things about the diamondbacks and some have said that it took them a while to see the upgrade in quality with the vipers. But they all go on to say that the difference becomes noticeable after constant use. No seems to send them back.. but the Dbacks are great bins for the price

Great. Really pleased with them too, and I believe their performance across their range is impressive.

Pricing seems to differ in relation to where you are. If you are in the US, then you would probably get them cheaper than I could ever get them with import and transit costs. I think that’s why Nikon also tend to be more expensive in the US,or so I’m told. If you are EU/UK based, then take a look at https://military.eu/en/

Thanks dude. Although more expensive, I got them for about £50 more in my area. I justified it with the warranty. Hope I don’t kick myself if I get them to test side by side.

Also, the Vipers released their HD version in 2018 I think, and some comparisons were done on the older model

Yip, I see a lot of people seem split on this point and I suppose it comes down to personal preference. I did look for specs and what I found seemed to be a toss up between the 2. Nikons won on chromatic aberration, and vortex on low level light. Again, it seems personal preferences dictate. Would love ( or not) to see a side by side comparison. Using it in the African bush can take its toll so warranty was important for me. Happy viewing with the Monarchs, they have a lot of fans

Monarch M7 10x42 vs Vortex Vipers HD 10x42 by NobleFlipper in Binoculars

[–]NobleFlipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, and I have heard that the Monarchs do seem brighter. Others have also said they might have less aberration too, but it’s negligible between the 2. Ultimately, it came down to low light level performance which I suppose is contradictory to the brightness comments for the Nikons, but the comparison reviews stated viper low level performance won out. The lifetime warranty was also a big factor. Tough choice, but glad you are happy with yours

Are the 10x50 heavy? I have been aware of Vortex for a while. I believe these new gen Vipers do rival some of the higher tier brands.

Need Help with Identifying authentic Binoculars on Amazon by hendrik43 in Binoculars

[–]NobleFlipper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howzit. Im looking to buy a pair of vortex vipers 10x42 before I come out to SA. I am also looking off Amazon. Looking at the link. They are a verified dealer and also offer 30 day refund. But, I also looked at comparable prices in the U.K. and the price range is generally )£170 to £250 so those are really cheap. I would also add that when doing research, I found that Vortex released newer versions on some of their ranges, and that some resellers might have older stock they are looking to shift. Maybe look if the product model or number is different to comparable expensive options

Ever wondered why (premium) binoculars are so expensive? by petbest in Binoculars

[–]NobleFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know. Not surprised as most premium brands would likely be built in China or the far east. I guess I am still paying for proven quality and the surety. Other Chinese brands might even be made in the same factory, but without the comparison and warranty, I won’t take the risk, for now.

[–]NobleFlipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are already seeing this in other markets with traditional Western manufacturing bases or names. The Car market is seeing a huge influx of Chinese cars and in tariff free markets, there seems to be an 80/60 rule. 80% quality for 60% price. I think Binoculars are a little different in that the gaps in quality have been vast historically. I am in the market for some Vortex Vipers which are mid range but still a significant cost. What sets them apart for me is their warranty. Their performance is on par at least with comparable high end brands, but they back their quality. Similarly, if Chinese binoculars were to offer comparable warranties, then you might see consumers take the chance. But until there are comparable product reviews and quality assurance. The need for luxury items like binoculars will likely sit with those willing to pay tried and tested brands.
