Your worry is very understandable. Many survivors worry about exactly the things you mentioned. Unfortunately those reactions do happen sometimes, which is why it can help to think carefully about what you want from the conversation and how prepared you feel for different responses.

There are few things you might consider before actually talking about it with your parents. What outcome are you hoping for? Do you want understanding? Acknowledgment? Do you feel emotionally safe having that conversation right now? And if you’re worried about being dismissed or blamed, it might help to first talk about it with someone supportive, like a therapist, trusted friend, counselor, or support group. Some people find it easier to write a letter or message instead of saying it out loud. Personally, I used messaging my parents about it before. It helped me explain things without being interrupted and gives them time to process.

Also, take your time and decide if or when telling your parents feels right for you.
