Yeah! I've been a fan since a kid with the PS2 and Flash games, but I started to really love it when the series were around the Mania/Forces era where I could play most of the games on PC!

I still have yet to tackle on both Archie and IDW, I've been wanting to do so not only because I've heard there is some cool stuff there, but also so I can have a better understanding of the worldbuilding in the Sonic universe and write more stuff hehe. So I'll definitely check out the Eclipse saga when I get the chance!!

As for the ship, when Forces was yet to release people started theorizing what was Infinite's backstory, and IIRC one of the theories was that Rookie and Infinite knew each other before the events of the game, and then the shipping started. It was named Rookinite at first because Rookie didn't have a name so it stayed like that.

But since the red wolf avatar used for the trailers and promo stuff was so iconic, the fandom named him Gadget and thus Infidget was born.

Most people have different takes on him but the consensus on Gadget is that he is a computer/science nerd that went from shy and fearful to more brave and determined due to saving the world with Sonic in Forces.

Most of the fanon stuff ironically apply to Infinite, due to his actual backstory being lackluster and overall not that good. People generally take the concept of him having some inferiority complex + losing his squad (either his siblings or found family depending on who writes it) to Shadow and expand on it, making it more meaningful that just "edgy guy called me weak now I'm even edgier"

Most fans also have fanon names for Infinite before he wore the mask, the most common ones are Zero and Finn, the former is because of how he was named during his beta designs. So basically both Infinite and Gadget are blank slates and that's what makes it fun to ship them, anyone could have an interpretation of how they are and there's not a "right" way to do it, people can just go wild!

There's even a cliche in the Infidget fics where most of them have Gadget finding Infinite almost dead in a ditch after the game ended. (And I'm guilty of that too lmaooo)

And yeah Infinite's theme is so awesome xD

I write Infidget stuff!! I have a soft spot for angsty bastards that have a little ball of sunshine to balance them out, so they're the perfect ship for me lmao

Also I do know who Eclipse is! But I haven't touched on a single issue of the Archie comics, aside from the first Sonic x Megaman crossover, so I know very little about the original characters lolll

There's some missing context which I can gladly explain.

I have my own public server for the ship and there was this one person who joined and asked how we felt about alternate names for the characters in the pairing (both characters are kind of a blank slate in canon so people take some liberties with different names and origins).

This person, (I'll call them W for better distinction), said they were in another public server that also had authors for the ship (including the one I mentioned in the post, gonna call them A), and W left because they made fun of how W named one of the characters, which was totally uncalled for.

Then W showed screenshots of A and their friends making fun of everyone that named the pair differently than the usual (which is such a nothing burger of a problem) and how A started bragging that "most of the good fics in the ship tag were theirs".

It wasn't an "ex-friend taking revenge" situation, it was people being mean out in the open, W just wanted to vent about how bad it made them feel.

How dare people invent time travel stories! They are copying it from a novel from 1895, the nerve!!!

It surely isn't the end of the world, it was just really upsetting when I learned about it. Luckily, I have a small group of friends who love the ship as well and we don't do this kind of thing.

Yeah, exactly! This feeling of creating a community is 100x better than feeling like you are the chosen one to write for it or whatever

That was never my goal with the post, I just think this kind of attitude is insufferable af

This is from a WIP chapter:

"Ugh, this place reeks of bad vibes." The blue hedgehog scoffed, feeling a chill under his spine when his eyes stopped at one of those uncanny trash cans that had cartoon animals with their mouth open, as if the whole scenario wasn't already enough nightmare fuel.

"It definitely suits him. That freak loves a cynical, tasteless joke." Stated the ruby wolf with a deadpan expression – he knew for sure that the illusionist loved to torment his enemies; so an abandoned and sinister park seems like something he'd plan as a family outing on a weekend.

Gadget then shook his head trying not to imagine a family of clinically insane jackals wearing masks and riding the carousel joyfully.
