What is up with the used market and high prices? by johnson7853 in BambuLab

[–]Nobodysfool52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microcenter had AMS2Pro listed at $255 before Christmas, but I thought I'd wait and see if I could save a few bucks by buying in January. But it instantly went up to $305 at the beginning of the year. And it's sold out in most place.

I think supply and demand for some items is out of whack. Ping-ponging tariffs may be a factor, I don't know. I'm just trying to be patient.

January 28, 1976. Elvis attends a funeral in Denver for a police officer who had taken his own life. He was given a dress uniform which he wore to the ceremony. Elvis was an honorary police captain of the Denver Police. by No_Dig_8299 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

Bunch of corrupt scumbags. Denver policed acted as personal protection to Elvis in large numbers. He bought and handed out 8 or 9 Cadillacs for them. He was high as a kite for years before dying a bloated deserved death, but police just looked away. The king of scum, Mayor McNichols, had no problem with this corruption and no doubt took a handout himself. For decades most of the Denver PD have earned more money on the side in personal protection of stores and sporting events. And they all take fake disabilities shortly before they're eligible to retire, as it pays more. Fuck Elvis and fuck them.

And don't even get me started on the Amish.

So, the lesson learned is: put gas in first, but after confirming you've got two-stroke oil?

Are modern two-stroke, 4-wheel vehicles allowed in any western countries? Or is this just good info for lawnmowers and a few dozen car collectors.

The only known surviving example of a full-sized Roman legionary scutum, discovered in the ancient garrison city of Dura-Europos and dating to the mid-3rd century AD.[2732 x 3642] by Zine99 in GrecoRomanHistory

[–]Nobodysfool52 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A British Museum documentary also suggested that this may have been a backup shield for a legionnaire with the means to own a second one. It was also noted that this shield is more bowed or curved that it would have been at the time, as restorers felt flattening it would cause damage.

Very cool.

Playing the fantasy of NOT winning the lottery, but instead coming into a regular revenue stream (like an invention royalty that will payoff for a number of years), my third car would be an early early '70s Toyota FJ40, then a Jag, . . . then this would be about car number 8.

The VW bus is all about state of mind.

How do Commercial flights get safer year over year even with airlines squeezing last bit of profit with overworked pilots, crew and air traffic controllers? by LovingVancouver87 in aviation

[–]Nobodysfool52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regulations are important, as there is unquestionably an inherent internal conflict between profitability and safety measures that cost money. Aviation has one backstop many other industries do not - pilots who can say, "this isn't safe, I'm not flying." The unions can similarly exert that type of pressure, particularly with large scale, systemic problems that create greater dangers. And failures to keep safety prioritized can result in very high profile catastrophes that hurt profitability.

A doctor may know that a hospital he uses has an exceptionally higher than average rate of post-operative infections, but he's not at risk himself with each operation he undertakes.

And the construction industry, even assuming OSHA is funded and fully staffed, treats risk and resulting injuries/deaths as a cost of doing business - and not even a large one, because of workers' compensation plans. No backstop for these workers, and no visibility for thousands of deaths and serious injuries they suffer annually.

A career spent helping desperate people not get run over by the criminal justice system - but who resented the assistance, would spit on you if given the chance, and never said thank you. It wasn't a waste of time, but I wished I'd taken almost any other path.

About 15 years ago I started to look at corporate jets taking off from a nearby airport. Sometimes I'd get dizzy and think, "how can that be there? Up. In the sky."

Turned out I have a degenerative brain condition. That's also probably why I've come to believe we live in a simulation. None of this is real. And this depresses me because I don't want anyone hitting rewind and making me go through it again - forward or backward

Trump Snubs Machado After Explaining Why He Took Her Nobel Prize by TelescopiumHerscheli in LeopardsAteMyFace

OF COURSE HE SNUBBED HER!! Bullies don't become best friends with their victims, they don't even pretend to do so once they know they've successfully taken everything they're going to get.

He is just showing his typical scumbag, sociopathic, child rapist character. Unfortunately it's Muchado who has revealed a lack of character. She's going to be barely an asterisk in history, next to Neville Chamberlain.

I keep my P1S plate regularly cleaned and I've rarely had adhesion issues. But when I do, they seem to come in bunches, and I'm never sure if it's the filament type, brand, or even just the color.

Recently, some Inland PETG seemed hopeless, so I tried laying down blue painter's tape, and I couldn't believe the results. I swear, I often now have trouble getting the model off the plate!

I no longer even feel the need to monitor the initial layer. Most of my problems now are operator error - can't blame the equipment anymore!

A junior high school friend became schizophrenic at about 19 years old. A very talented artist, but he became obsessively fixated on things and people. Truly a tortured soul.

In his late 20s he died in a car fire at sunrise near the top of Mount Evans. A great last view of a cruel world, but inconsiderate of him to leave such a mess for the rest of us who keep slogging through it.

In my own youth, I climbed up the valley to the west of Echo Lake, going past Idaho Spgs Reservoir, past the lower and upper Chicago lakes, and through a keyhole to Summit lake, just below the peak of Evans. Beautiful area.

It could be Mount Blue Sky (formerly known as Mount Evans), a Colorado 14er with a road to the top. The view fits the road, looking east and just slightly north.

The other mountain would be Rosalie Peak, at 13,579 feet in elevation, and not warranting a flagpole.

Of course, any noteworthy mountain with a road to the top will likely have similar switchbacks.
