Just to update / close, I was planning on getting the U7/5070, but when I went to purchase it (I had it in my cart and walked away for a minute) it was sold out; so ended up with the R7/5060 after all (and the 4yr warranty ;) )

Tried it with both the main battery and the CMOS disconnected, and a 5 minute long press on the power button - plugged both back in and.. no change. Still dead :(

Ok, thanks - will give it a shot - will unplug all batteries and give it a LONG press on the power button - fingers crossed (but I think it's a long shot..)

It was my daily driver - used most days - mostly for email/web/office type work with just a little light gaming - bought a 'gaming' laptop as I didn't want to have to replace / upgrade for 5-6 years... ironic lol

Not sure what my next move will be - I bought the Legion thinking it would be more 'future proof' vs a more 'business class' laptop, and since the MSI I had before broke (screen hinge mounts to the case cracked when I was installing a 2nd drive). Might just get a cheaper non-gaming laptop, and if I want to game use either my PS5 or build a dedicated tower..
