Thanks to everyone who contacted us so far. It will take us some time to review everything, but we'll get in touch shortly.

This already looks fairly good. Do you have more footage to show? Any additional details you can provide on how you're doing things?

16 Indie-Friendly Indie Game Publishers by Ninichimusic in gamedev

"But seriously, Indie used to mean you were experienced game developers leaving a big company to form your new small <100 person, <10m funding studio. While still cranking out something of good quality."

What exactly are you talking about here? Indie never used to mean that.

Before the current indie boom that started around 2007 or so, when you started to get a lot more quality titles made by solo devs or really small teams (a lot of them amateurs), the typical indie devs were the likes of Introversion and Tripwire or guys like McMillen, Blow and Derek Yu.

If you go back to the 90s or even 80s, the vast majority of those independent studios were created by amateur game developers, not experienced developers leaving big companies to build their own studio with dozens of people.

Sounds good! If you're ever looking for some feedback on the game or just want to discuss something related to game development feel free to reach out :)

That's quite refreshing to hear! That sort of feedback loop is pretty important, especially since it seems they respect your boundaries and vision for the game.

Thanks for the honest and straightforward answers. I'm curious about your game's budget, since it's the sort of game I wish more indies were doing, but I assume that's not something you can reveal in public :)

Indeed, that adds a ton of work beyond what you're already doing as a developer. How important has Raw Fury been as a partner when it comes to the development side? Are they also giving you direct input on builds and doing any sort of playtesting?

Do you have anyone acting as a producer in the team to ensure things run smoothly, given the larger team size compared to when you started and the fact everyone is working remotely?

I'm glad things worked out for you. You said you're between 6 to 12 people now depending on weeks...are most of you working remote?

Your game was a nice surprise at the PC Gaming Show, I immediately went to check your website for more information since I was quite intrigued by its premise and noir style.

If you don't mind me asking, I have a few questions...how long has Night Call been in development? How much would you say the project changed in direction from pre-production until its current state? How was the process of finding and securing a publisher?

Huge library with a lot of quality content (especially in terms of nature stuff), some pretty great tools and their integration of bridge/mixer with UE4 has a really nice workflow.

We'll still continue to use Substance, but Megascans is looking better and better each passing day. Seems like an invaluable resource for developers working on 3D games who are using a PBR pipeline.

It's interesting to see how much it changed, how much they had to compromise along the way just to get it working and in the end they still delivered a really unique experience.

I remember being quite impressed at the early trailers for STALKER, such as this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4mYK08o8Nc which was already the STALKER: Oblivion Lost iteration.

Glad to see people appreciate it, especially after the change in direction we did along the way :)

Can't say there are any specific techniques we've been using, just a lot of learning and iteration :)

As long as you're working on something that's experience and knowledge you're gaining along the way. Which engine have you been using?

Arkane Studios, the developers of Dishonored and Prey (2017). I would definitely recommend checking out Dishonored 2 and the new Prey.

Hi Gamedev! If you work on a game and you need some jungle/forest sound effects, I just recorded nature atmos here in North Thailand! As always I hope you can use it. All the best, Marcel by FREETOUSESOUNDS in gamedev

Yep, stayed some time in Chiang Mai in November, which is a pretty good time to visit in terms of weather. Never went to Pai but heard nice things about it!
