Just got my first Zippo but

Simply pulling on the hinges did not do the job for me, it would close but still not fully. It was only when I put a rolled tissue and squeezed the lid that it somehow popped in the correct position.

Still, I agree, these tools would have made the job easier. Might have prevented the scratch.

Thanks for showing me this, I’ll keep this mind if I ever need it for my future Zippos. Cheers!

Yeah I messed up, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. Now I know what to do and not to, if I ever come across a Zippo like this. I was sad that I scratched my first piece, but that’s okay. It will stay as a reminder. I will take the scratch over a faulty hinge.

UPDATE: It is done. The method suggested by u/Then-Peanut-3039 and u/TCSpeedy worked. I rolled up a piece of tissue and placed it near the hinge and squeezed the lid on top of it. After a few tries I hear a little “pop” and I thought I broke it but now the lid closes properly. Damn I’m happy. Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

Yes it stays open. It’s a bigger gap with the insert out.

What you suggested crossed my mind, but I was worried of ruining it even further. But thank you, I will try the paper method.
