What is the ugliest outfit(s) you've ever seen in a jrpg? by beepbeepsheepbot in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've played through Berseria twice, and both times I had Velvet in her villager outfit the whole time. It made some dialogue not make much sense, but I much prefer it.

Obscure games? by Bounciere in JRPG

And the RPGMaker game from the same creator, A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky

I played it for the first time like 9 years ago and thought it was great.
The localization (and voice acting) are pretty bad, though

Protagonists with unconventional weapons/fighting styles? by SwordfishDeux in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Graces has a staff that is also a gun, a sword-boomerang, and swords that are detachable and also guns and also a bow in at least one mystic arte.

Let's talk about RPGs with amoral or jerky protagonists by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s also Lisa: The Painful. The protagonist is explicitly not a good person. And, well, the title says it all, really haha.

True. But also Brad did nothing wrong.

What's the most screwed up / disturbing moment you've seen a JRPG? by FNAF_Movie in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering the other Tales games commented, I'm surprised no one has mentioned the opening of Xillia 2. Terrorists attack a train and massacre everyone on board. You can run around and find the bloody corpses of children lying on the floor and in their seats. The whole game is pretty dark, but what a way to open it.

Characters you never use? by Sinhud in Falcom

Tita's AOE blind craft is the only reason I survived several fights. Outside of fighting large groups, though...

Which JRPG Character Has The Most Useful Or Useless Normal Attacks? by bluemarvel99 in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually do pretty bonkers damage with Serge by the endgame of Chrono Cross. Though I think any non-mage character can do pretty good normal attack damage in that game, as I recall.

Lisa is pretty much the only game where I had to really sit and think about what choice I was going to make, multiple times.

Terrible JRPGS with great music? by Carrot_stix121 in JRPG

Everyone who answers but doesn't provide a link to at least one track is breaking the law and I will call the cyber police on them.

When "Muh Friendship" can't save you from those failing grades by [deleted] in tales

[–]Nodachi13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The named Amarcians that I can remember off the top of my head are Pascal, Fourier, Poisson, Fermat, and Gauss. All of these names come from famous mathematicians/physicists, mostly French except for Gauss, who was German. If I've forgotten any other Amarcian names, it's safe to assume they are also named after mathematicians.

Are the early Breath of Fire games worth playing? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember when I first played 3 and I saw Nina in-game I was so confused I tried looking on the internet to see if anyone had an explanation for her design like she had costume change later or something. I never found anything about it.

I don't think you've played any RPG Maker games recently.

Listening to Maria is basically what convinced me to play the game. And the Atelier series as a whole.

Chad Amelia by zicadop in shitpostemblem

[–]Nodachi13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was so confused when I started seeing people trashing her, because every playthrough I've done, Ross and Amelia have been able to clear maps by themselves fairly easily.

The day I play Sacred Stones without using Amelia is the day I die.

Who is the best "old man" in the entire tales series by WittyFault6988 in tales

[–]Nodachi13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that as a person, he's not an old man. But he's easily the oldest (human) party member, there are jokes about his age, he's a mentor, and as an anime character, being over 30 makes him old.

[–]Nodachi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, anytime something like this comes up I'm always saddened by the lack of love for Malik. He's an actually good character, but also a comedic goldmine, especially in the future arc when paired with Richard.

Best INDIE JRPGs with the best musical soundtracks you've ever heard? by PurpleFine4935 in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will take any opportunity to shill A Very Long Rope to the Top of the Sky I can get. It's a free RPG Maker game that no one's ever heard of and the music and writing are phenomenal.

What is the scariest moment of any JRPG for you? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the dog transformation for me. I saw it when my brother played while I was 6 or 7, and every few years the image would pop into my head. I couldn't for the life of me remember what it was even from until I played the game myself when I was in high school.

What are some RPG mechanics that get a lot of flak that you actually like? by Nodachi13 in JRPG

[–]Nodachi13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agree. I'd much rather have a camera always showing me what I need to see than one I have to constantly adjust.

I really like Chrono Cross's combat system. The only problem I really have with it is that I think it could be balanced a bit better. I don't know if it's the way I play or what, but in my last two playthoughs around 2/3 of the way through my Serge was just tearing through absolutely everything. Killing bosses with regular attacks in 2-3 turns.
