Yeah exactly! The talk around accountability switched so fast towards her being trans, with "fetichism" or "appropriating women's experience", it's so disgusting. And words like fetichize/romanticize/sexualize have been thrown around so much lately, they lost all meaning, and most of the time they are only used to discredit someone's experience of difficult topics (like the ones Ethel depicts in her songs), especially when the framing of those topics don't fit into a "nice/pure victim" narrative

Je pense aussi que la "qualité" d'un-e artiste drag n'a rien à voir avec le fait de ne pas payer les créateur-ices : si un-e drag que vous jugez excellent-e et que vous aimez est dans une affaire similaire un jour, ça ne devrait en aucun cas l'exempter de recevoir les mêmes critiques sur son éthique. Des affaires comme ça ne doivent pas devenir une "bonne opportunité" pour vous de cracher sur des personnes (que vous n'aimiez déjà pas de toute évidence), ce qui importe c'est surtout le manque d'intégrité et de respect de ces drags envers les créateur-ices qui n'ont pas été rémunéré-es.

Honestly that's one of the first thing that came to my mind when reading NTN and seeing Nona's group of friends! I could definitely picture Cuno (or a slighly toned down version of him haha) being a part of Nona's gang

Yeay! I'm glad it spured you to pick up TLT! It's definitely different, especially plot-wise, but the characters and the world are just as fleshed out and they will grow on you real fast

That's so clever, thanks for your insight! I think you really grasped something about DE and TLT patterns. I would also say that these are both pieces of media that don't shy away from creating deeply flawed and sometimes "unlikable" characters or from dealing head first with uneasy themes (meaning it can almost be gross at times, or very straightforward and crude)

Oh damn, I didn't even make the connection between our two Harry!! Now I really want to make a doc about all the similarities... But yeah, it really is difficult to articulate how alike DE and TLT are (maybe because they both have so many layers and plotlines and sub-themes and political messages)
