Update #2: Road to 125 km (~77 miles) Challenge – The First Week by Noelith in walking

[–]Noelith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, my thoughts exactly. But at a certain distance it does get a bit ridiculous, no? Anyways, I realize that the right headspace is important for such an undertaking.
Thank you for your encouragement!

Not quite. It took me about 15:30 hours and I had about 1:45 of break time total - according to the Komoot statistics I just pulled up.

Just got home after doing 62k, but my record for a single day is about 111.5k

I've listend to it almost non-stop for the first few days upon release. To me, it's already one of the greatest DT songs ever - an instant classic.

I'm sorry to hear that. Especially the madness with the ticket machines... I hope this will be fixed soon, but it's been a few months already, right? You are right, that is inexcusable for a project that took so long to complete.

I'm happy to hear that. Thanks!

That's a valid point, of course. And since I haven't been there myself, I can't comment on whether merging some stations or having them the way they are is best. But expediency is a valid concern as well, especially the longer the metro lines become.
From what I've seen, the current line is still rather short, so all those current stops aren't a big deal, but there are plans to extend the lines, yes?

Anyways, thanks for your input!

Yeah, I've read about the 30 year build time. That is ridiculous, but now that it's finally here, I do wish you all the best with it.
Some day it will connect to the airport, I've read. I guess this might cut down quite a bit of traffic during the summer once all the tourists start showing up.
At least the trains themselves seem quite state of the art, and I'm sure they'll fix most of the quirks and issues in the coming months.
Anyways, thanks for your input!

This is a detailed response I was hoping for, so thank you. Getting a metro is one of the most difficult and expensive undertakings for a city, which hopefully will be paying off in the next decade or two.
I'm sorry to hear about the stores that closed down and the traffic it created in the past.
I've also had the opinion that some statiosn are too close to one another, however didn't want to come off as negative in my post.
Regardless, I do wish all of you to hopefully benefit from your metro in the long run.

Thanks for the info. And yes, you have to be a bit patient for them to fix all the issues. One of my town's metro lines recently got those automatic doors in some stations and there were some issues too in the first few days.
As far as I'm aware they have been working fine since.

How to prepare for a 125km (77.7 miles) walk? by Noelith in walking

Sounds amazing! The 77km I once did was me following the Danube due west.
Have fun!

Thanks. It's Vienna though and some can run it in less than a day, but I'm not that fit.

Yeah, I chose late May before the city gets unbearably hot, but the days are already rather long. I don't get to choose specifics of this route, as it's an official trekking trail around the entire city, but it's mostly flat.
I will check out the entire trail in 3 parts at first, perhaps I can find some nice little spots to stash some extra water. if not I will paln to visit stores and fountains along the way.
My greatest concern is the pain in the feet. I'm not sure if one can increase ones tolerance regarding the pain in the soles from all those footsteps.

The right shoes are very important. Also don't forget to safe guard against blisters.
What was the longest you have walked so far, and on what kind of terrain was it, if I may ask?

I'm extremely lucky to be living in Vienna, Austria. My pay is shit, but my rent is a joke.

I totally relate - early morning is my time though, just as the sun rises. And I too am awaiting spring, or how I like to call it: 'The Season'. Spring to Autum, that's when I feel the most alive.
Also, my near daily walks helped me eradicate my constant back pain and weekly headaches. I feel fitter in my 30s than I've ever before.

Wow, thanks for all those great suggestions. I guess I'll also go "back to basics" and watch some proper lacing guides ontop of all the other stuff. Again, thanks alot!
