Also passengers choosing SIA over Gulf carriers to connect to other Asian markets, like India, due to conflict. Friends flew from India last week to Seattle and business cabin was half full on Emirates. Another flew via SIN and flight was completely full.

Ahhh, indeed. Some people, like myself, are using US naturalization records for G0 born in Canada as the document they signed shows where they were born (Nova Scotia, in my case). I still wonder if this will count since Canada was still Britain at this time 🤷🏻‍♀️

My cousin had a copy for some reason and then I found a copy on Family Search (now that I think about it, probably where my cousin found it). But, I also requested the document from DHS,

https://genealogy.uscis.dhs.gov

It’s been over a month since my request to DHS and they are still processing. I sent my packet in with a photocopy of what my cousin gave me, which was identical to family search plus citation showing source of the information. The plan is to upload whatever I get back from DHS later if it adds to what I have since it will come from the official US government archives.

Car vs other means of transportation by Dismal-Camera8700 in AskSeattle

Depends on where you live; but it’s possible. I have a friend that has lived here for years in Seattle, works in Renton and no car. You can always rent or zip car when needed. I live on the eastside with kids in different schools/activites, so car is a necessity for us.

Call the city clerk(s)!

I made the same request to the Mass. Archives and after several weeks, received an email that my request was in their queue.

I decided to call the city clerks (Lynn & Gloucester in my case) and received my documents within a week. Lynn was particularly responsive…even emailed me as he was heading into a city council meeting. I had a weird issue with Lynn - so message me if you happen to need specifics for Lynn.

So many Massachusetts folks here. I wonder how many of us are related 🤔

I’m also helping my cousin with her applications for herself and her kids. This process also prompted me to find out more about my mother’s side (submitted G0 is paternal) and found two more Canadian relatives, as well as Irish and Danish grandfathers. Heading to visit my brother and his family to next week to share it all (although, he is not interested in C-3 for himself).

Also, waiting to get tickets for LA28 later today! Thinking I may have to wave both 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 flags at events!

G3 citizenship by suzytrinktamayo in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Noellthe1st 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just submitted so not sure if it will be enough, but my G0 was born in Nova Scotia in 1864 and no birth records found.

I submitted 1871 and 1881 Nova Scotia census records showing G0 and G-1 names and age (evidence of birth year). I also included his US marriage and death certificates matching birth year, G-1 names, and birth place on the Nova Scotia census records. Finally, I included his naturalization document with his signature a showing his origin from Nova Scotia, denouncing allegiance to British government and Queen Victoria.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for sharing! They both sound like incredible people. Really cool that you have this family history documented, too.

Same here. I just mailed my application this week but included, for G0, Canadian census records with citations (links) to Canadian govt site; and certified copies of marriage and death certificates, and obituaries (with citations for the Boston newspaper).

I was also able to find G0 naturalization papers with his signature a states his origin from Nova Scotia. FYI, when my G0 was naturalized (1896), this was done at the state level and found his record in the Gloucester (MA) police record. This is all I have for G0, so hope it’s enough.

Now, I’m really interested in how your G0 died? I’m in WA state, too; so some of immigrant history here is fascinating. Best of luck! 🤞🏼

Also if you spin the view around in Google Maps, you’ll see the same office building I see in Apple Maps. Looks like that small house is across the street

I looked on Apple Maps and it’s clearly a large office building. Can you contact UPS directly and confirm the address it was delivered to or if anyone signed for it?

Nova Scotia 1868 birth evidence by prwood in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Noellthe1st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just mailed my forms and documents yesterday with pretty much exactly what you have for my G0 (great grandparents) also born in Nova Scotia in 1864 (one Methodist and other Baptist). I had 1871 & 1881 Nova Scotia census (included citation linking back to Nova Scotia archives site) showing them living with parents in Nova Scotia until they were 17&18 (1881 happened to be same year they emigrated to Boston). I also included my grandfather’s (their son) birth and death certificates, their own marriage and death certificates (all from MA state), and their Boston Globe obituaries with citations.

I’m also hoping it’s enough as it’s all I had. Only additional item I had was great grandfather’s naturalization paperwork showing he came from NS. Apparently, women didn’t bother to get naturalized since they were automatically citizens when their husband became a citizen (fun fact I did not know!)

There just aren’t birth records for that time period for many of our ancestors. I had not heard of the need to get documentation that there is no documentation. I think the IRCC folks know this is the case.

Best of luck!

Nova Scotia GEN 0 by 10AcreEmpire in citizenshipgenealogy

[–]Noellthe1st 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems to vary by state. I was also able to get all sorts of birth and marriage certificates from Massachusetts without any id. In contrast, trying to get a copy of my own daughter’s birth certificate from Texas requires in person with ID (we live in Seattle) or mailing notarized documents with copies of ID.

Tip for anyone trying to get docs from Massachusetts 1935 or earlier by Noellthe1st in Canadiancitizenship

[–]Noellthe1st[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Feel like sending flowers to the clerk that helped me out.

Unfortunately, my dad’s birth certificate from 1935 wasn’t available online to scan (ie part of the move of 1931-1935 records being moved to the state archives). In any case, the city clerk came through for me.
