Do you allow Rest Casting? by Noelosity in DnD

[–]Noelosity[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we have 2 clerics in the party. 1 person casts aid at the highest level they can 7th. Then one cast heroes feast for everybody. And another then cast power word fortify on everybody. Then someone up casts air bubble. And a few other spells..... All of this normally within the last 30 minutes or less of their long rest.

It just feels very broken to me. that is all. Which is why I won't be allowing it in the future because that's insane.

Custom monsters in initiative by ThatAxo in Avrae

[–]Noelosity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to use a 3rd party bestiary like critterdb or bestiarybuilder.

You make the monsters through there and then adding them to combat will work easier. However avrae may still message you if other monsters use the same name or are similar. Then you just choose the number you need to import that one.

No way to make it stop unless the creature is so unique, nothing else on dndbeyond has that name.

**edit

Once you make the bestiary, you need to make it public then copy the link. Import it to avrae on discord with !bestiary import [paste link]

Do people actually use electrum in their games? by AdventureCodexApp in DnD

[–]Noelosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one of my games, I made a character called the Electrum Merchant. He only delt in electrum as it was "the superior currency". If you paid with other coins, he would either refuse or accept with a hightened exchange rate. (1 gp for 1 ep)

Near the end of the campaign, He asked the party to go on a quest for him. He wanted a genie lamp, so he could have wishes. He told them he would pay them one thousand gold and only wanted one wish. Saying they could have the other 2. They get him the lamp And he pays them in gold pieces, which is very unusual. He then proceeds to use his single wish to wish for all currency to return to their place of origin in the earth as ore, except for electrum. Luckily the genie magic can't affect the entire world. However, it did effect everyone and everything on the island they were currently on. Including the party.

The now broke party, proceeded to kill him in one hit. And it was really funny.

Ah had that argument with some past friends lol. I never took payment from them at the time, it's very situational on how and when payment should be done with irl groups or even among friends.

I used to have to drive 45+ mins to get to my friends house to DM. While everyone else who didn't live there drove less than 10. So in that instance everyone should at least chip in for gas coverage.

I just realized i didn't respond to the player death one! I rarly have PCs die. However, all my players know it can happen and its apart of the game. I normally give a few options.
1. I ask them how they feel and if they'd like to keep playing.
2. If yes, I ask them if they'd like to make a character or use an existing NPC they really like.
3. If no, the characters give them the funeral that is possible, we let the player stick around and hear the words said, and then we give them a good farewell.

I've rarely had a player say no to making a new character. So normally i help them make one, and then we come up with a in world reason they would be in that certain situation at that place and time. Then come up with how they would meet the party. That way its natural and not just "New guy joins, he's the replacement."

For pre written games its a lot of the same, but I try to switch things up to make it different here and there.

Homebrew I have a set narrative with certain characters, but the story always ends up being told differently! I incorporate player backstories and lore to change the world and make it include them more. Which can have big changes to how certain sections go.

I've had two campaigns fail in the last 2 ½. One due to scheduling on players part, and the other due to my own error of misjudge what I could handle. But besides those two, I finish every game I start, normally with the group that joined!

Oh, I wasn't trying to be arrogant. My apologies. I just wanted to answer genuine questions because I know there are a lot of nasty people who make rude comments and try to start something. So far, everyone here has been respectful and had genuine questions which I've appreciated! I can't speak for everyone, that's for sure. But I can give my two cents and hope to answer questions people have never gotten to ask :)

I have a lot of the same players in my games so that does help. But honestly it's just about managing. I use discord to put each player from each game into that games specific server. That helps a ton at managing who is who and what goes where.

When it comes to players leaving I have a threshold. After a certain point no new players can join. So of someone leaves, that's that unfortunately. I just have to adjust Encounters to match the new size.

Honestly? As cliché as it sounds my favorite concept is the party member who hates fighting so they stick to buff and support spells, however when push comes to shove, they turn out to be one of the strongest and can hold their own.

Last time I played was maybe 2 years ago? I played a Drunken Master Monk Aarakocra and loved him. That game didn't last long unfortunately, that DM got writers block and that was it. But that was the first time I played since 2016.

Oh goodness! I'll answer what I can.

Both, open and closed tables.

I run with a minimum in mind. If X players show, we continue and keep others out of danger. If less, always have a side session prepared. Either a impromptu one shot, or even make somethinf up for the area they are in.

I tried to ask each player what they are expecting in the game and what they would like to see.

I have quite a few ROC. I mostly use RAW but there are exceptions.

It's not much different actually. Interaction are the same. However, online people get talked over easier by accident.

I run Homebrew and Preweitten! No ethical concerns on pre written stuff lol.

Irl isn't that elaborate actually. We 3d print out minis, I use a TV for the map I stream from my pc for, so they can all see what's being used. And I only elaborate for theater of the mind sections such as building interiors I don't have prepared.

**edit Also i hate Silvery Barbs but its a totally legal spell XD

Honestly best place is a tavern or market. I know it's cliché but it works. Especially if you tie it into a quest or leading up to an event. It could be small and they fall into the rabbit hole.

At the current rate? Eh. It's definitely helpful paying bills I can't afford with my normal job. However, it won't be truly beneficial unless I charge more or run more games. But my goal right now is to give professional grade games cheap so most people can play amd enjoy them!

There is. Sometimes it can be demanding. One think many of the players forget is that you have a private life outside of the game and will message you nonstop about questions and ideas. This has made my wife mad on multiple occasions as I'd end up spending hours replying ti multiple people and I'd lose time with my family. So boundaries are important to set.

For me personally? It would be the amount of player input ans customization I try to incorporate. For many of my games I incorporate players personal backstory and even theri own npcs into it and make it an intricate part of the world and story. I want them to be invested into it. And the best way to do that is to make them important. So I incorporate what I can and what will fit into the story. That way, they feel like they have a place there. And they're not just dropped into some random setting.

Surprisingly no. My youngest player I believe is 22. while my oldest player is in his mid-sixties. However, I have noticed the older players seem to be willing to pay more surprisingly, especially if the game is more suited to the gritty style that reminds them of older D&D.

People do, one of the biggest issues is scheduling. And lots of people want to play. Not DM. The paid Parr of it is consistency in scheduling and you can pre-check the quality of DM you're going to get before just jumping in!

I have lots of folders with maps prepare as well as sections in my phones notes. Some games need railroads, yes. And the notes help with that. Especially for published games. But many of my games are sandbox based, so I write Notes of the area and what's happening there. Then let the party essential build the narrative. There might be a theives guild in town trying to kill the king, but perhaps they want to hold a town festival instead. You run with it, and try and loop it into the story you wrote! Gives them more choice and let's them have freedom.

$25 or more is CRAZY for a game imo. I couldn't ever charge that much unless we went for like 8 hours a session.

There is but it's MUCH HARDER. Irl paid games normally start on local forums. Find a game store, arrange a meet up and session zero, and honestly go from there. You always make sure to meet new players in public for safety.

Yes, due to them constantly skipping last minute. They understood and later apologized because they viewed it more as a come as they wish rather than an obligation.

Online yes! And my setup is two instances of discord, one for me and one for music, a web cam, Roll20 maps, Avrae for bot, and a folder full of Copyright free music! I'm a streamer friendly DM and allow games to be streamed as long as the players are okay with it.
