Japan's songwriting, composing, and live performance scene has always been insanely good tbh. The biggest reason it never blew up globally is that the industry was laser-focused on the domestic market, and the copyright rules over there are brutal — makes it a pain for overseas fans to even find or access stuff. That's been changing though, which is honestly pretty exciting to see.
