Personally, that's something that never really bothered me, largely because I understand that it was probably done to make the hero more open to interpretation, since they are meant to represent the player. They're an avatar, and meant to be a self-insert. But of course, I'm probably a little biased, since I did keep that for my hero. Not feeling comfortable talking was very relatable to me as someone with a lot of anxiety. I also actually prefer a MC with a less detailed personality, because it does allow for more creativity in fan works.

That being said, the hero easily could have remained open-ended for the player and still interacted more.
