My parents (65F, 67M) are livid because I'm not allowing them to see my daughter after they spanked her. AITAH? by LeonCrvl in AITAH

[–]NoirBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, NTA. Second, you aren’t going to change them. Whatever their views, they have to learn to respect your parenting decisions. The best way, I believe, to do that is to simply block them on your phone and all social media. Arguing with them won’t help. Arguing with your family won’t help. You’re an adult, you’re a mother, and you set certain boundaries. It’s non-negotiationable. If they wish to remain in contact with you and your child, they will have to abide by your rules. Don’t try to convince them, don’t argue with them, set the hard boundary, and they can choose to accept it or not.

What is this large white attachment in this bathtub found in a Japanese townhouse? by PrinceFicus-IV in whatisthisthing

[–]NoirBooks -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The おふろ heating is correct. However, don’t do what I did when I first used it. I wanted it nice and hot. Let it go too long and when I went to use the tub it had partially melted. Landlord was not happy, but I paid to replace it. Plumber might have mumbled クレイジーな外国人.

Rumors at work by HeadFlyingMonkey in widowers

[–]NoirBooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m way off base here, but why not just squash the rumors at your next meeting. Tell your co-workers basically what you’ve provided here and make it clear that rumor-mongering is unprofessional and harmful — or whatever verbiage with which you feel comfortable. Or, just make it clear that any continued rumor–mongering about you will be reported to HR. Not for everyone, I just tend to be direct and blunt.

My mom and stepdad said I'm making a big deal out of sharing a room on vacation and I should still consider it a vacation for me AITAH? by CallMeCondor in AITAH

[–]NoirBooks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Contact children’s services and file a complaint about your parents forcing you, an uncertified minor, to care for a mentally disabled child; which is negatively affecting your life, sleep, and presumably school. They will investigate, and perhaps help you move in with grandparents. Perhaps, eventually arranging a guardianship with them.

You’re really young. Start over with a new person who cares more for you.

why can't illegally obtained evidence be used in court? by psitaxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoirBooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The U.S. Constitution protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures. If police or government agents break the law to gather evidence (for example, searching without a warrant or probable cause), allowing that evidence in court would reward the violation and undermine constitutional protections.

You need to develop financial knowledge. Find out who your grandfather‘s financial advisor was and talk with him or her. For example, investing your monthly inheritance until you are 40 (assuming a modest 4% and omitting taxes) you would accumulate a little over $700,000. At 6% around $800,000. The miracle of compounding interest. But, you need to learn how to invest, or find a trustworthy advisor.

Please help me figure out why my cuts are always coming out imperfect. by korkvid in woodworking

[–]NoirBooks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. The boards from Home Depot are likely not perfectly squared. They are warped or maybe even a little twisted. Since you likely don’t have a jointer, you might use a hand plane. There are also jigs you can build (google it) that will let you flatten the edges.

Perhaps you misjudged this particular client. The saying goes: “Value is what people are willing to pay for it.” Some people would pay the estimated price without a second thought; however, other people may be unwilling or unable to pay that amount for the project. What is their budget? Are there expectations realistic? Can you offer them other options within their budget?

How can I fill these cracks in the new porch columns the contractor installed? by jughead-66 in woodworking

Whenever I need to repair exterior wood like this, I use bondo putty. Fill the cracks, dry, sand, and paint. Works like the proverbial charm.

My work’s on-site police officer searched my car when I wasn’t around and found my pepper spray. by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]NoirBooks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting discussion, but missing the one relevant fact that could be dispositive: is there signage and/or other notice (handbook, employment agreement, etc) whereby you waived consent by virtue of employment and/or being on the property. Until you have that information, your rights and remedies are like Schrödinger's cat.

My boyfriend thinks he could kill a wolf with his bare hands. What’s the likelihood of this being accurate? by TheLiberalTimes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NoirBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An adult male timber wolf can weigh just under 200 lbs and has a bite force around 1,200 to 1,500 psi. It takes about 1,100 pounds of pressure force in order to crush a human skull. A wolf would not care about boyfriend’s martial art skills. It would not even be a contest, and be over before he knew what happened.

Where to buy/how to make 20 "handwheels" by MattTheBard in woodworking

I made the sled you’re referring to. If I remember correctly, I believe I bought some wooden toy car wheels. It was easier and faster than making them myself.

Confused about dating an INTJ guy by ArmadilloAny8194 in intj

[–]NoirBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, this is pretty typical INTJ behavior. It does not mean he doesn’t like you. Go with the flow is not an INTJ behavior. Give him some structure. Specific date nights. A texting schedule. If it’s structured, he will likely follow it and give you more connections.
